The next morning got off to a pretty rocky start with me and Kendra. I woke up before her and I decided to make breakfast for the both of us. I was in the kitchen eating when I heard her moving around inside her bedroom. I wanted to make peace with her so we could move on from all the unpleasantness of the other day and get back to being friends so I decided to be the first to apologize for everything I said to her.
She came out and judging by the way she was walking, she wasn't completely sobered up just yet. She walked over to the kitchen sink and opened the tap over a cup. She drank the water so quickly that I was scared she was going to choke on it.
"Hi," I said awkwardly to her.
"Hi, there," she replied without looking at me.
"You hungry? I made waffles and got some of that juice that you like," I said and pointed at the table, inviting her to join me.
"What flavour?" She asked.
"Red mango; freshly made," I replied, "Would you like some?"
"Sure, what the hell!"
Kendra sat down right opposite from me and helped herself to some waffles and juice. I could tell that she knew that I wanted to apologize and she had no intention of going first. I decided to just do it and get it over with.
"It's okay, Cher. You don't have to say anything. I forgive you," She said as she stuffed some waffles in her mouth.
"Is that so?" I asked sarcastically with a raised brow.
"Yeah, of course. I mean, we all make mistakes and nobody's perfect, especially you so I forgive you," She said again.
"YOU forgive me? What about you? You also messed up pretty bad," I told her.
"Yeah, but clearly," She gestured at the breakfast table, "You went through all this trouble by making me waffles and getting my favourite juice. I mean, it's obvious this is an apology breakfast and only people who screw up go through such lengths to apologize,"
"You trying to be funny or something, you idiot?" I asked with a smile and threw a waffle at her.
"Hey, don't waste food. These waffles cost a lot," She scolded playfully.
"How would you know what they cost? I bought them," I reminded her.
"Fair enough," She said with a chuckle.
We laughed together for some time while we ate and I was glad that neither of us was planning to let what happened between us ruin our friendship. Sisters fight, but the important thing is to not let our issues cause us to drift apart because as much as Kendra needed me, I needed her just as much.
"We're cool, right?" I asked more seriously now.
"Of course, we're cool. It's going to take more than a little squabble to make me hold a grudge against you. Maybe if we were in love with the same man and were fighting over him, then I'd probably hate your guts forever," Ken joked.
"You wouldn't be able to drag a man with me. I'm a sexy blonde stripper. You wouldn't stand a chance," I joked back.
"Oh, is that so?"
"That IS so!"
We kept laughing a little bit and just so we could have something else to talk about, I decided to tell her about Malcolm Balogun and the offer he had made to me.
"While we're on the topic of men, there's something that I have to tell you. After my last show on Saturday, I met this man and he offered me a job so I went to see him yesterday before I came and got you from the crack house," I said.
"Is that so? What kind of job? Wait, don't tell me that it was…"
"No, no, no, it's nothing like that, he made that pretty clear. His name is Malcolm Balogun..,"
"Balogun? Isn't that a Nigerian name?" Kendra asked with a raised brow.
"How do you know it's a Nigerian name?" I was curious to know how she knew that.
"I've heard it before…and I'm also quite versed and exposed to other parts of the world, you know," She claimed, "He's black, right?" Kendra asked.
"Yeah, he is. And not only that, he's completely African," I answered.
"Is he cute?" Ken asked and flexed her eyebrows as she did.
"I mean, he's not terrible to look at…" I answered after hesitating a while.
"OMG! He's gorgeous, isn't he? And you find him very attractive, I can see it in your eyes," Ken began to tease.
