Having thought this, many things suddenly made sense.

Adam Jones had always been aware that Elly Campbell was suspicious of Lily Bankston, so he wasn't surprised when she asked this question.
Knowing he had annoyed her earlier, Adam Jones now replied very honestly,
"I don't remember anything else, just the fragment before the car accident. When Aunt Lily was thrown from the car, I was the first one to pull her back."
"So, you think Aunt Lily is very important to you, and only a person you feel extremely close with, would you instinctively save her like that?"
