Elly gave James Campbell a grateful look and then, with an apologetic glance, turned to Adam Jones.
"I'm sorry, Adam, I wanted to share my joy with you, but I didn't expect..."
She bitterly tugged at the corner of her lip, displaying her grievances and helplessness before Adam in full measure.
Seeing Sophie in such a state made James Campbell feel even more remorseful.
"Sophie, it's all Dad's fault for letting you be wronged today."
"It's okay, Dad. If Sister doesn't recognize me, I'll work hard to change her opinion of me in the future. I'll make her like me."
She sweetly clung to James Campbell's arm, saying, "Don't be mad at Sister anymore, after all, my mother indeed did something wrong, and it's natural for Sister to take it out on me."
Her gracious and understanding words, while subtly hinting at her own innocence, were not only meant to show off in front of James Campbell but, more importantly, for Adam to see.
