Chereads / Cheating for Survival / Chapter 21 - Flame

Chapter 21 - Flame

Because of the high frame rate of FPS360, Jun's vision was incredibly sharp. Even from a height of about twenty meters, he could clearly spot a small mark on the ground.

"Focus!" he thought.

Finally, it appeared!

He steadied his right hand, concentrating the heat on one point. "Keep it up!" he told himself as the temperature started rising. Jun could see the hay slowly changing. It turned brown, and the objects nearby were also turning black.

Sure enough, the heat was present. Maybe it was because the temperature hadn't condensed enough, and the heat source was a bit sluggish. Thus, many dead grasses turned into black charcoal but remained unignited.

Beads of sweat formed on Jun's forehead, trickling down his neck, past his shoulders, and onto his back. The effort was draining his energy, and his hands and arms ached, but he persisted.

For a meal!

Work hard!

Even if it cost his life, he wouldn't hesitate.

"Teng!"

Finally, after concentrating for a long time, most of the hay had turned into charred black. The flame was finally ignited!

Jun quickly stowed the bright silver technology gun and descended from the bamboo. He found some dried bamboo leaves to maintain the flame.

Fire! This was what distinguished humans from other animals. Cooked food was always the most delicious!

After safeguarding the flame, Jun added plenty of dry firewood. Firewood and fire, they could accomplish something here.

Hey-hey!

The meat of the large lizard was so tender that it was skewered on branches and placed over the campfire for a barbecue. Smoke wafted from the improvised kitchen. This feeling was quite enjoyable.

"Zizzizi!"

Even though he lacked peanut oil, barbecue sauce, or the like, a mouthwatering aroma filled the air. Jun was already rubbing his hands, anticipating a delicious meal.

But Jun felt that something was missing.

Salt! If only he had salt. This deserted island was surrounded by seawater, and salt could be extracted from it. Jun went to the beach to get some seawater. He planned to heat it over a high fire to obtain salt.

Arriving at the beach, he was cautious, as he had nearly been caught by an octopus the night before while bathing in the seawater. It was broad daylight, offering clear visibility, and after ensuring there was no danger, Jun filled two bottles with seawater. These bottles had originally contained Coca-Cola and came in handy now.

He whistled on his way back, but to his dismay, the barbecue had disappeared in just a few minutes. It had been stolen!

Hateful!

Thankfully, the fire was still burning. Jun examined the ground and noticed small footprints. They weren't deep or large, about the width of three fingers. It didn't seem like the work of a large animal like a wild boar; it was more likely a small creature. The footprint resembled a plum blossom shape.

"Sika deer?" Jun pondered, unsure of the zoology.

For now, he decided to continue with the barbecue and deal with the culprit later. All creatures on the island were fair game.

"Sooner or later, I'll grill the one who steals others' food!"

Jun cursed and resumed tending the fire. He found a sunken stone to evaporate the seawater for salt and simultaneously grilled the large lizard and octopus meat.

The delicious smell returned.

This time, Jun wasn't leaving. He sought to enhance the barbecue's flavor.

He brought out some spicy strips, rubbing them with chili powder. No matter the type of spicy strip, it had to be spicy. The chili powder was sprinkled on top of the roast.

"Sizzle!"

The juices danced with oil, water, and chili powder. Jun's stomach growled again.

For some reason, he had a bad feeling. Would he be robbed again?

Impossible! Jun wasn't one to be easily bullied. He took out his bright silver technology gun and stood ready at the barbecue stall. The Longquan Armor was also prepared.

"Whoop!"

Suddenly, a black figure rushed into Jun's field of vision from above. It was a seabird!

Hateful!

Jun knew he couldn't protect the barbecue now. It was too late. There was only one option—fight!

He thrust his bright silver technology gun forward, aiming precisely. Stab!

"Tsk, tsk, you're a little guy, you dare to steal!" Jun exclaimed, scalding the seabird in the hot seawater. He plucked the feathers with ease.

Jun had helped with housework during Chinese New Year and holidays, so he knew that birds needed to be scalded with boiling water before their feathers could be plucked. Removing the internal organs, he coated the bird with chili powder and grilled it.

A whistle blew.

These days were becoming more nourishing.

"It's a pity it's not roasted squab; otherwise, this meal would be so rich!" Jun mused as he grilled the seabird in one hand and the large lizard meat in the other.

Finally, it was time to eat. Jun held it up to his nose and took in the meaty aroma. Just the smell made the world feel worthwhile. He opened it gently, and juices splashed out. The large lizard meat was incredibly delicious, and his taste buds erupted.

Tearing into the seabird's leg, he savored the crispy meat and bones. It was a delightful meal.

Chew big!

Then, he took a sip of Coke.

"Ah!"

"Ha!"

Jun sighed in relief. This comfort made him feel as though he were on vacation, even though it was a survival game on a desert island.

At that moment, a message came through the World Channel, a private message from Luo Bijun.

"Brother Jun, the tasks you assigned are complete. I earned over 800 desert island coins today!"
