Upon returning to the dining area, Ares ensured a fresh array of dishes was laid out. He smiled as Eleanor wrapped his cloak around her, the fabric enveloping her warmly. She took her seat, her eyes sparkling with delight at the sight of the food.
His face still stung from the snowball she had thrown earlier, but he couldn't help but be charmed by her enthusiasm. As he sat down, he poured himself a glass of wine. "I thought you said you weren't hungry?"
Eleanor shrugged, her eyes shining with excitement, as she savored the apple pie she'd chosen first. "I'm hungry now,"
Ares' lips twitched. He sipped his wine, the flavors bitter on his tongue. He carved into the steak slowly, the spicy sauce a fitting accompaniment to his thoughts.
As he savored the tender meat, his mind drifted to Adonis, a man whose sadistic tendencies made his skin crawl in a bad way. Ares knew Adonis' proposal was a thinly veiled attempt to claim Eleanor, to exploit her innocence.
