"I'm not going anywhere, little bird," Ares whispered, his lips brushing against her forehead in a gentle kiss.
Eleanor's face lit up, and she slowly released her grip on his collar. Ares took a deep breath, closing the doors and windows, plunging the chamber into darkness. He then effortlessly set a fire in the fireplace, the flickering flames casting shadows on the walls.
With a deep sigh, he shed his coat and joined Eleanor on the bed, where she snuggled closer, resting her head on his chest and entwining her fingers in his hair.
"Why do you think Kaiser did that?" she asked, her voice low. "Why would he host a dinner just to declare my execution?"
Ares' eyes darkened at her sudden question, his expression betraying his concern. He could sense her distress without needing to read her mind. He drew her closer, wrapping his arm around her in a protective embrace.
