Chapter 4 - Wolf's bane

CHAPTER FOUR

**Kaylan**

She had nothing but terrible nightmares in her sleep about Cypher stabbing her for denying him and Gareth burning her up in a fire for not serving him.

She couldn't sleep a wink anymore as her back, neck, and arms were in a cranky pain from the heavy duties imposed on her by the head servant.

Tears slid down her eyes to her ears as she stared at the darkness, it was peaceful and blank but hers was dark and stormy.

She's seen and heard about rogues who got accepted in some parts of the packs peacefully but she happened to be the forbidden one.

The earthly scent that swirled in her nose made her sit upright in a flash as she stared at the dark figure illuminating its presence before her.

Even in the dark, his eyes blazed and she swallowed.

Her heart slammed heavily and she stood up from the bed instantly, wondering what she might have done.

"Alpha Gareth?" Kaylan almost cried and thought of the things she didn't do before going to bed but her head was blank.

"I'm sorry please!" She sniffed in raw fear as he chuckled.

"You will still get punished for making me enter this filthy place, do you also sleep like a pig?" His deep voice echoed and she shook her head.

She apologised for the umpteenth time and prayed he would leave before someone else discovered he came to her old ugly room.

"You must be wondering why I'm here?" He uttered and sighed, of course! She's dying to know how miserable her life will be at his hands.

Nothing good comes out of him and coming to meet her means my crime is real.

"Ye..yes." she stuttered and he came closer and grazed her dry parched lips with his fingertips sending shivers down her spine and she felt cold immediately.

"Good, the Pack meeting will commence today in the evening." Kaylan nodded at his words and listened keenly. "There are going to be top dignitaries and pack elders to decide my fate as King and a lifetime opportunity awaits you, Kaylan."

He said calmly, she could imagine the smirk on his face already, it was outright obvious.

"Yes, Alpha?"

"You will say yes to be my Luna and a spot will be secured for you when-"

He rambled on and she didn't listen to his words anymore as she froze and the knots in her stomach tightened.

"So, are you sure you can handle it?" He asked

"What?" She gasped at his questions as objects spun in different directions before her.

"Are you possessed with deafness?" He yelled out and she trembled." You're going to be my Luna, I've already told the elders so don't mess it up."

"Why not just kill me?" She pleaded in hot tears and groaned in pain.

"I should just die and it would be better!"

He slapped her hard and she crashed on the wooden bench.

"Listen to me idiot, I'll not only kill you but burn you alive if you dare mess up with me!" His voice was dead with a cold warning.

"I'm not worthy to be your Luna please." She cried helplessly but his hands flew to her neck as he raised her unable to feel her feet on the floor.

"You're not worthy of anything in this life, you're doing this to clear some news because you're a mess! Dare to pull some stunts in the meeting and you'll dance to the tunes of my anger!" He threw her away and she crashed on the chair, breaking her arms in the process as he slammed the door.

Her vision blurred with tears as a pounding headache took over.

She's stuck between two dilemmas as she wept bitterly, it's either she rejects one and faces death or she rejects both and digs her grave.

There was no way out of it or her poor wretched life would eclipse to a greater heights of torment.

The door barged open and she knew immediately it was the head servant, Layla.

"You horrible slut!" She slammed and walked towards her.

"You've not only declined your duties but dragged the Alpha to your room and also neglected your duties this morning!" She yelled and a groan escaped her lips.

"It isn't yet sunrise, it's still pitch dark. How am I supposed to work?" she asked calmly in pain but her face sneered in disgust instead in reply.

"Remind me why you're the only wolf in this pack again. " She insisted.

"Layla please.." Kaylan cried.

"Your useless sight as a wolf is for seeing what those dear Lycans can't, now get up and start preparing the dishes for the Pack's meeting."

She wasn't even given time to get up as she grabbed her hair and threw her outside brushing her skin roughly on the ground.

She could barely walk as she cursed and cried loudly in pain while she continued her cursed fate of clearing up things in the dark and washing the pile of dishes that healed at a corner.

By the time she was done washing, it was dawn and the maids kept trooping in and sneering at her until one called, which diverted her attention.

"Alpha Cypher asked me to give you this."

She swallowed as all eyes glared at her disgustingly as she collected the stretched metal box from her and moved away from their sight before the head servant called me back.

It was the most beautiful red gown ever and she wiped the tears that threatened to fall as she thought of how she would deny him or accept him.

She wiped her tears and retrieved the tiny bottle she had gotten from Ray.

Wolfsbane.

Fucking deadly to the wolves and Lycans.

If she can't help herself, then she'll create a way and dissolve this mess. Since she handles the Prince's meal, adding a portion to their meal would relieve my cursed life.

She walked back to the kitchen and ignored the peering eyes of the maids.

"How dare you walk out on us Kaylan, what exactly did the Alpha give to you to warrant such insults from you?"

She was shoved to the ground heavily and something rolled off her clothes
