In early September, the Xu family had already planted the ginseng, and Wenhan, Zixuan, and Pengcheng had all gone to study at the County School. Zhiming and Wencheng, on the other hand, took the Xu family's dried ginseng down to the south; though they did buy back some ginseng, they didn't bring much due to limited capital. Zhiming and Wencheng offered a price that was ten percent higher than the locals, so some villagers who weren't in a rush to get money let Zhiming hold onto their ginseng and agreed that they could pay when they returned. Uncle Zhiming and his nephew fetched more than four hundred pounds of ginseng, just from the Xu family's stash alone, they contributed around two hundred pounds.
