"A routine check-up, after so long?"
Jose's voice came through the phone, unhurried and calm.
Darton Thompson clenched the phone and walked toward a deserted, quiet area.
"Did Your Highness call for any particular reason?" her voice was subdued. In front of Jose, there was no need for much pretense; after all, he could see right through you.
Jose's voice sounded very idle, "Ah, no particular reason. I just forgot to tell you something. You'd better not stir up trouble. If anything happens to Melody Foster, I might just sell you out to curry favor with my brother, you know."
Darton Thompson's heart skipped a beat.
She hadn't yet replied to Jose.
Then, feigning surprise, Jose said, "You haven't already done something dreadful, have you?"
"Prince Darton," Darton Thompson gritted her teeth, her voice low, "if you were to sell me out... I also have quite a bit of information about you in my hands, you know."
Threaten her?
Did Jose not realize they were in the same boat?
