Matilda Murphy did not answer Mason Ross's question but countered, "Doctor Ross, have you ever loved anyone?"
Mason Ross was clearly startled.
But his expression then became serious, "If you're seriously asking, I can seriously answer you, yes, I have. And it was true, deep love, through life and death, through struggles. All the pain and sweetness you've enjoyed, I've had my share. Are you satisfied with that answer?"
Matilda Murphy clearly hadn't expected Mason Ross to answer her that way.
