"What do you mean by 'a woman's trick'?" Mrs. Chu chimed in indignantly, "Are you being sexist? What's it to you what people think of you? Is suspicion automatically implied when they look at you?"
"What gives you the right to speak to me like that?" Mr. Chu's voice raised an octave, "Everyone in this room has denied their involvement except for me. Isn't that like pointing a finger at me?"
No one had actually thought of it that way.
No one would ever suspect Mr. Chu of all people!
They simply didn't know who to look at, so their eyes inadvertently fell on him.
Yet Mr. Chu seemed to react as if a nerve had been touched. He kept harping on Mrs. Chu: "Given your process of elimination, you are the only suspect remaining. I have to ask, did you put these pins on our darling's clothes to prick her, and instead ended up pricking Merlin?"
