"Ex-girlfriend?" Amelia tentatively asked William Shaw.
William Shaw gave a wry smile, propping his arm, "Does one from elementary school count?"
"Pfft—" Amelia spurted out a laugh.
"I couldn't tell, William, you've been quite the charmer since you were young," Amelia almost couldn't help admiring.
"Yeah," William Shaw responded helplessly, "I matured pretty early, knew a lot of things when I was young, and then..."
"And then?" Amelia asked with interest.
"And then... it's all been the same old story," William Shaw had now gotten used to shrugging his shoulders.
It was a gesture picked up from Amelia.
"Just say if you're going to meet her or not," Amelia pressed in an old-fashioned way, "you have no idea how beautiful she's become."
"She's always been pretty," William Shaw nodded, "I've always known, but it's still better not to see her."
"Why?"
"Seeing her means... I can't shake her off," William Shaw crinkled his nose, "In short, it's very annoying."
