Breathing deeply, Lucas Walker swallowed his anger, bid Summer Gardner farewell, and turned to walk away.
The aging butler bid Summer farewell, quickly pacing to catch up to Lucas. "Count, you can't push the young lady too hard, or else it may backfire..."
Lucas Walker halted, whipped around, his eyes blazing in anger as he glared, and roared out.
"I made nice with her mother, even went as far as saying I didn't know her..." his voice was hoarse, and he couldn't help coughing uncontrollably. After he regained control, he continued, "The water she served was as bitter as seawater, yet I drank every drop. I humbly apologized to her... What else do you want me to do?"
In his life, who had ever made a fool of him? Who had he ever apologized to? Who had he ever lowered himself to?
Even in front of his mother, he had never done such things. Yet, just to apologize to her... he had stooped so low.
And her? She just did not appreciate any of it!
