"You don't know your dad!" Summer Gardner yawned, "He's swamped with a training exercise at the station these past few days. He simply doesn't have time to come back."
Her mother, a bit oblivious, was usually easily appeased.
Her dad, a former scout, was incredibly astute. If he were around, he'd likely see through her in an instant.
Just the thought of her dad at home was enough to make Ivana Bennett nervous. Learning that the formidable General Logan Bennett wasn't home, she sighed in relief.
"That's good."
As Summer was walking to the kitchen, she heard her speak, and turned back in confusion, "What did you say?"
"Oh... I meant...it's really bad timing, it's really bad timing!" Ivana quickly said to cover up, and then she dashed upstairs, "Mom, I'm going to take a bath first."
In the kitchen, Summer asked, "There are dumplings and wontons in the refrigerator that your dad prepared. Do you want to eat some?"
