"Hmm!"
Grady Wright nodded decisively in response.
His young face was etched with resolve, as if assuring Flossie Wright that he certainly would not lie.
As she looked at him despondently, Flossie suddenly asked, "Have you ever been in my room?"
A tinge of guilt crossed Grady Wright's face, his eyes beginning to dart back and forth. However, amidst his confusion and hesitation, he eventually settled on honesty, nodding his head and saying, "Yes, I have been there."
Having heard his admission, Flossie seemed to have accounted for this in her own mind. She showed no great reaction, but lightly continued to probe, "What for?"
"Er..." Grady's hesitation intensified. He cautiously looked up at Flossie's dark, cold eyes, and all his doubts suddenly vanished. He decisively spoke up, "I had never been there before, but...but a few days ago... Mother asked me to put away a book, and... I accidentally put it in your room."
With his words, the mystery unfolded.
