The voice sounded familiar, but not overly so. Flossie Wright couldn't immediately identify the person in question. Therefore, she placed the vegetable she was holding mid-air into Glenn Hutchinson's bowl, put her chopsticks aside, then finally lifted her head to examine the stranger who'd appeared out of nowhere.
Having taken a closer look at his well-structured face, her memories of him gradually surfaced.
The man who had sat next to her at the alumni gathering, her ex-suitor - Patrick Morrison.
"What a coincidence."
Contrary to his previous demeanor, a surprising hint of a smile was now tugging at the corners of Patrick's stern face.
Had he not smiled, Flossie would have dismissed this encounter as a casual, coincidental meeting that forced him out of his comfort zone to just say hello. But his smile was as if he was breaking away from their past rigid relationship, implying that he had forgiven Flossie. This indeed raised some eyebrows.
