Until 6 p.m., Flossie Wright, who was still asleep, suddenly opened her eyes when Becca Reyes sneaked within two inches of her bed.
"What are you doing?"
Flossie, caught off guard and opening her eyes, fleetingly revealed a sharp gaze that made people's scalp tingle. Her particularly cold voice slid across Becca's face, causing her to stop abruptly.
Blinking, Becca's gaze instinctively lingered on Flossie. But on closer inspection, all signs of intimidation and chill seemed to vanish instantly. She stared in surprise at Flossie, who still lay on the top bunk, and saw nothing in her eyes but languor and indifference.
It was as if what she had witnessed earlier was merely an illusion.
Yet the cold aura lingered in her heart, resilient against her efforts to shake it off.
"It's time for dinner." Becca discreetly retreated a few steps, maintaining some distance from Flossie.
