Chapter Four
He wished time could stand still, just to let him take a good look at her.
So many times he had woken from dreams unable to grasp her, so many times he had been lost in thought unable to touch her, never had a moment felt more grounded than now. To have his lifetime's chance to watch her stand in front of him, tying his tie, made Ryan Gregory feel as if he were dreaming...
He clearly remembered, from the 2nd to the 30th floor, it was torture not just for her, but for him too!
He had to be cold enough, repeatedly suppressing the impulse to look at her even once.
On that day of their unexpected encounter, standing in the elevator, he tried hard to ignore her presence. Watching her lower her head behind him, he could see all her disappointment reflected in the elevator's mirrored walls.
Later, he still couldn't resist...
He followed her, only to see her leave with Arthur Baker, the necklace and ring falling through the grate.
