Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Beginning | Where is here?

Great news everyone!

I was able to find a way down from that mountain peak.

Bad news is, my legs fractured on my way down.

Yeah... so apparently jumping down from a mountain isn't very safe.

We love and learn don't we.

"Father, I heard something loud in the distance."

"Hm? Was it a stone?"

"No, it sounded like a branch that snapped after falling from a tree."

"Then you have your answer. Why are you bothering me with meaningless words."

The youth looked at his father with annoyance.

"I'm telling you it didn't sound like a normal branch. I heard a quiet yelp almost after the crack."

The father grumbled a bit.

"Is this like when you heard a wail coming from the waterfall, thinking it was a call from the ancestors."

"Fa-father, the noise did sound like a spirit that called for us from beyond the living world."

"Sure, whatever."

The youth stomped angrily.

"Father! Please, just come with me and make sure it isn't a creature from beyond the grounds."

The father dismissed him, telling him to check it out by himself if he was so worried.

"There's no reason to fear that any wild beasts would enter our grounds with the blessings of our ancestors."

The father spoke before leaving.

The youth huffed before timidly walking to the area he had heard the noise from.

Reclining on the bush with which held a colony of berries, I loudly consumed the small fruits.

If it weren't for my shattered legs, I probably would've felt as if I were in paradise.

"If only I had some water."

I sulked as the berries weren't the best source of hydration.

I turned my head as I heard quiet footsteps to my right.

"Who are you?" I questioned as I saw a faint shadow.

"Ahh!"

A loud shriek was dragged out as the shadow tumbled and fell to reveal a small body.

I looked in confusion as I tried discerning what it was. I quickly realized that it was a human. A child at that.

Feeling sorry for the boy, I comforted him with a greeting.

"Um... Hi there." I tried smiling to reassure the boy of his embarrasment.

"AHHH!!!"

Well, that wasn't what i thought would happen... I guess he isn't shy after all.

"Hey, human child! I promise I won't hurt you. Can you stop screaming?"

"AHHH!!"

"#######"

I lost my peace as the girlish screeching almost made my ears bleed.

"Tobias! Tobias! Where are you?!"

A rough voice reverberated through the trees.

A man whose stature was as tall and mighty as a gorilla ran to the boy.

"Fa-father!"

The boy, relieved from seeing his father, hugged him as his small figure trembled.

The man... I'll just call him father. Looked at me as his expression froze.

Not wanting to leave a bad impression on the father as well. I tried giving him a serious look instead of a happy one.

"DEMON! What are you doing here on these grounds!? Did our kind not have an agreement with your race?"

"Demon? Me?"

I asked in doubt and confusion.

"Don't play dumb. I could have your head for coming to these grounds without reason. State the reason for your trespass!"

"Wa-wait! Calm down, we can be relaxed and not violent okay? Listen, I don't understand what you're talking about. But I swear I'm not here to scare you."

"It's easy to speak words, demon. But you have not answered my question. I shall have your head for trying to manipulate my mind."

"Huh?"

The father began to move his lips without sound. I could sense a formless shake in the air as the light of the sun seemed to gather in the palm of his outstretched palm.

"Blade of Reverence."
