Chapter 76 - part 75

Third Person POV

Flashbacks (few days back)

Emma dialled a number with shaky hands. "B- Ben, please help me." She hiccuped through the phone when the phone connected.

"Emma? What's wrong?" Ben asked, worried.

"Ela- Gisela's in danger, please help me. You're the only one who can help me right now." She pleaded.

"Emma-"

"PLEASE-" she shouted, but then she breathed in to control herself before she continued. "Please, she's your niece! You said you wanted to fix things between us the last time you came to my apartment years ago. Now is your chance. Help me saving my daughter, your niece." Emma pleaded once again.

"Please, big brother." She repeated.

"Okay, alright." Ben agreed. "I'll send an address of one of my safe houses, you can send her there." He added.

"Thank you." Emma said, much calmer now.

"Ems?" He called out.

"Yes?"

"Can I ask what's going on?" He asked.

"It's better you don't." She replied.

"Okay then. My men will be waiting for her at the safe house." He said.

Emma hummed in agreement before she hung up.

Adam was watching her attentively as she shook and trembled while talking, and just as she finished the call a hint of a smirk made it's way onto her lips.

"Emma what's going-" Adam asked puzzled.

"C- can you please lead me to the bathroom." The same frightened tone and troubled features took place of the smirk, causing Adam's confusion to increase.

Adam was about to question her actions but something about her gaze told him not to.

"Sure! Come." He said instead.

Emma scooted closer to him and he put his hands around her waist, pulled her up with him to a standing position, and circled his arm around her shoulders as he walked her to the bathroom.

The way Emma walked and her stiff yet defeated posture gave out a vibe of fright and defeat, she was in that very moment more of damsel in distress than the invincible A.L everybody knew.

Upon reaching the bathroom, Adam closed the door with his free hand and locked it.

Emma broke free from his grip and walked towards the washbasin, only this time her defeated and dazed posture changed into her normal one. Her stance was back to that of A.L, the one he was used to.

"Emma, what is going on?" Adam asked.

"Just playing a game with someone." She said as she splashed water on her face.

"What game? And with whom?" He asked.

"You know, Adam, I would really appreciate it if you don't treat me as a fool." She said as she headed to the towel-rail to take a towel to dry her face.

"I still don't understand why you acted so frightened, why didn't you take the mole out? And why did you call Ben when you know who he really is and what his intentions are?" Adam asked. "Don't tell me you're really sending our daughter to him?" He added.

"Why would I send my daughter to someone who's life goal is to take me down?" Emma asked, surprised her husband would even think she would do such thing.

"Then?"

"I want him to think I fell right into the trap he laid out for me." She said.

"What do you mean?" Adam asked.

"What I'm saying is, I still don't know how Ben fits into all of this, I know his mother's role and her motive, but I still can't figure out his. Or whether he knows of our families' history in first place." She said.

"And for you to get answers, you have to let him think things are going exactly his way." Adam assumed.

Emma nodded.

"That still doesn't explain your reaction when you found out about the mole, nor why did you call him." Adam said.

"Here is no mole, not on our side at least." She said.

"Will you please stop with the puzzle talk and just tell me the whole thing at once." Adam said frustrated.

"Fine!" Emma threw her hands up as she discarded of the towel she was drying her face with in the laundry basket. "I planted moles on my stepmother and brother's side, Greta and Müller were the key ones since I wanted them right in the heart of the organisation. Greta was to be next to Ben and my stepmother, Mila and monitor their each move, while Müller was to get inside the tight circle of the Elders, but both needed a justification for them to be trusted by them. Müller's justification was Ela's fake death, and Greta's justification was reporting them on Müller motives." Emma explained.

"What motives?" Adam asked.

"I knew it'd be hard to keep the secret of Ela's death hidden for long, so I thought why not expose it myself instead of waiting for them to find out on their own." She replied.

"So you sent Greta?"

"Yes, it just happened that Ela ruined her hair few days back which came in handy. It gave them reason to believe her story." She said.

"What would Müller do if he was exposed?" Adam asked.

"We didn't plan on exposing the fake death to the elders, the first phase of the plan was all about the Sampsons, but if the elders were to find out, he could always blame it on his men." Emma said shrugging.

"Why did you act the way you did earlier then?" He asked.

"One of the reasons Greta got through was the way she presented them to spy on us." Emma said. "There are cameras hidden all over the mansion, in every corner except the bathrooms." She revealed.

"Even in our bedroom?" Adam asked annoyed at the fact that someone was spying on him in his own bedroom.

"Yes." Emma confirmed. "We knew that a mere story was not enough to prove her hatred to us and our little girl. They need something strong, something that not everybody would dare to question." She said.

"That's why?"

"Yes, he needs to know I heard his conversation with Greta for him to believe her. I wanted him to believe the delusion I presented him, and to see how frightened and disoriented I was. I want him right where I planned for him to be by the time this who.e thing ends." Emma said.

"What are you planning to do with Greta, then? I'm sure they'll dispose of her once they're sure they got what they wanted." Adam asked.

"I plan on pulling her out before that happens, just not yet, I still need a confirmation of one thing." Emma said.

"What is that?" Adam asked.

"My father, I'm still not sure where he stands from all this. I want to know for sure if my hunch is right or wrong." She replied.

"You think he has something to do with this?"

"What I know is that he's hiding something, and I need to know what that is so I can finally solve this puzzle." She said.
