Charles, too, was startled and flinched alongside Mr. Hans. Suddenly, Mr. Hans spanked his head and scolded him, "Why are you here?! Are you going to kill me with a heart attack?"
Charles furrowed his brows and sat carefully, confusion in his eyes. He had been in the living room for hours, yet this older man hadn't noticed him, and now he was being blamed and spanked by Mr. Hans for his carelessness. On second thought, Charles reminded himself to respect elders, or else he'd face countless lousy luck throughout his life—a principle from his mother, 'Why does being respectful mean being treated unfairly?'
"I was here all along; I just gave you a handkerchief, and now you're angry at me," Charles said in a low voice.
'Oh really? I haven't noticed him, damn,' Mr. Hans thought while staring at Charles.
