Chapter 1 - Reborn in a grim dark fantasy

Allan was born on Sol (to his knowledge) in the experiment called The Varied. Spliced random DNA of many imperiers (super-soldiers) to create the strongest super-human. It was a brutal project. Kids were beaten if they didn't obey the guards.

Allen was sucked into this world after fainting during a failed experiment to create an engine to leave Earth's atmosphere. At first, he thought he was dreaming, but the intense training that was forced upon him by the scientist told him otherwise. It was constant combat training. He had the learn combat tactics with melee weapons day and night. they had study halls that did aptitude tests to measure their capabilities in battle on or off the field. Allen impressed the scientist as he had an aptitude for many fields, but his leadership skill was lacking because of his few friends.

Today was different, however. Something important was coming. The guards got every child and lined them up in a brightly lit corridor standing at attention. All of them were between 6-8 years old. Allen was seven years old but he was the second tallest being 5'9 and the eight year old being six feet tall. The Overseer was walking back and forth inside the room lit with candles and smelled of incense. He stopped in front of Allen and looked him up and down seeming puzzled and suspicious.

"Have you used your magic?"

That was a serious question. They're told not to use magic by any means.

"No sir."

His eyebrows raised. "Very promising then. Subject 356 very remarkable."

"Stch." Another child sucked his teeth.

"You have something to add?" The Overseer said.

"He would be nothing without his core!" He hated Allen. Derek never saw Allen fight and he believed he could defeat with ease. Derek was praised by the scientists for his combat prowess but they still felt like he was inferior to Allen. This infuriated Derek!

"Noted Derek. But speak no further boy."

Some children have a magic core organ. The scientists openly favored them more than others. You could see their faces when they were around them.

"Today I bring you here to announce three tests. The first test will be combat between you and an MK-1 training fleshling. The second test will be combat between subjects and third. You will know when the time comes. These tests range week intervals so train and study intensively."

This will be their first real battle. At least they knew what an MK-1 fleshling was. It was a genetically spliced man-made horror in Allen's opinion. It was an ogre with think pink flesh with a mechanical brain and eyes. They were strong beasts but they lacked greater intelligence. Allen learned this from the books from the library which had many books on battle tactics, combat, leadership, and some fleshling but little else.

They were given full permission to explore. The general asked him to not use his magic for another day, to which he didn't understand why, but he had no choice. Allen decided to meet his friend Jerold who was 6 years old and didn't have much talent other than being incredibly smart if not the smartest kid here. Allen thought he should have been the smartest but he lost most of his memory from his past life.

They sat in the library in a corner of the room. The room was lit with lanterns and chandeliers that the children had to keep lit themselves. The walls were old black brick and looked ancient, like most of this facility.

Allen was concerned for Jerold because he didn't understand how he was going the defeat the MK-1.

"What's your plan for the MK-1." Said Allen worried about Jerold.

"Don't worry about me. I'm working on it as we speak."

Allen noticed the book he was reading. It was a book on the construction of the MK-1.

"I see. Can I borrow it when ur did?"

"Best you just find one yourself."

Allen scoffed. He knew he wouldn't find another one of those books. By the looks of the library, the other kids seemed to be hoarding books and forming factions instead of clicks (slang for friend groups).

"But I did find this for you." Jerold pulled out a book called Mysteries of Magic and Spells. This book was unheard of to Allen.

"They added this book when we left the briefing. They seemed to want students to study magic. But it has little use to me because I don't have a core."

Allen was elated! He was happy to have such a caring friend. Allen read the book alone in his room to concentrate. It had a bed, desk, wardrobe, and an empty weapon rack. The wardrobe was filled with black robes, black shirts, and shorts that reached his knees.

Sitting at his desk the book taught him about magic. Magic was mysterious. But humanity helps many of its secrets. It told him that prolonged unused Magic would drive him mad. This surprises him. He haven't used his magic, but wasn't driven mad either.

Reading further under the title signs of prolonged neglect of magic he read that magic would start to seep out of the body, indicating that one has reached the limit of magic they can hold. As long as one doesn't stay in this state for too long. Then he/she would be safe.

His unease drifted away. Doesn't this mean that his magic battery tank was practically endless?

Most of the first section was history and speculations of magic. He took a break to eat and train for the rest of the day and even got tips from his friend on how to defeat the MK-1.

The next day he started learning spells. But he had little time and had to pick one spell.

Knowing that the MK-1 was only a dumb brute he would choose an attack spell and the one that caught his eye was explode! He went to the newly open magic hall where he got his own private room marked with his name. Since it had been a day's time, he could use his magic just like the other kids. He first tested blasting raw magic at the dummy ten meters away from him.

His raw magic was Jett black in color. It blasted the dummy to bits in six shots! although his aim wasn't that good, seeing he hit only three of them, it felt great to finally use his magic. It felt like he moved a limb that hadn't been moved in years.

It was time to practice his spells. To the left of him was a security suit. it was there so he would lessen the chance of him hurting himself. Wearing it was uncomfortable. the padding stuck to the skin and was itchy. He had to bear with it since he was using a dangerous spell.

He chanted in an ancient language [explode]! To his surprise, the area where he exploded was beneath his feet.
