The car moved for only a few minutes before stopping to a halt. Finally, Emily could breath.
Though her breath now became rasp with fear. Who would kidnap her?! She had no money!
The door slid open and a gentleman was already waiting on the other end.
"Please step out of the car." A voice said.
Emily looked around and thought it might be a better idea to step out as he'd said. To her very surprise, a familiar face was standing outside waiting for her.
All the fear she had been feeling escaped her body in one heavy sigh. Then she ran forward and swore to create bruises all over his body with her purse.
"How dare you, Jake! How dare you? I was fucking worried. Kidnapping me? Really? Why is that necessary!"
Jake tried to run around but Emily was skilled. "Ow, ow! Okay, sorry Emily. Damn it!"
Finally, her anger was brought to a stop. With one last gruesome look at Jake, she asked. "Why have you brought me here?"
"We're here on a date, Em." Jake said cheeringly.
Emily did not hear him clearly. "A date? Is this like a blind date or something?"
Jake frowned at her. "We're not strangers. No, no blind date. It's just you and me."
"Look at how in dressed. I'm in my pyjamas, Jake." Emily complained.
"Oh don't you worry about anything. I've set it all up. Ladies!" He called out and Emily was wondering where the ladies had been.
Shortly after, two slender ladies with pretty faces made their way towards their midst.
"Hello, Jakey." Both ladies said in a chorus.
Jakey? Emily thought to herself.
"Ladies, take care of her for me, alright?" Jake said and the ladies giggled and nodded.
Emily was still staring in surprise when both ladies nudged her to come with them to a beauty shop opposite them. When she turned back to look at Jake, he only nodded with a big smile on his face.
Minutes later, Emily experienced luxury like never before in a long time. Her skin was bathed and her hair smelled of lovely fragrances from the shampoo used. She was on an elegant dress and some classy shoes.
Emily had complained she did not want to be in heels for the night so they had been replaced by a lovely sandals. Her hair was styled in an updo and slight makeup has been applied on her face.
Damn it, she looked good!
She was escorted by the same ladies as before. Jake was already waiting for her in the car. He changed into a more former outfit. Jake looked good in almost anything. The night was chilly so he had reserved a coat just in case the air got colder. So had Emily.
"So all of this shopping, I get to keep the outfit?" Emily asked.
Although it was true she was once married to Jake for two years even, Jake had never shown her love in all the stage of their marriage compared to that evening.
"Oh come on, don't embarrass me." Jake said with a smile. He turned to the ladies. "You have once again made me proud. Here's a tip." He handed a few notes over and a loud giggle could be heard from the ladies.
"Thank you, Jakey." They chanted, then left.
"Why the hell are they calling you, Jakey?" Emily had to ask. "Also, you've met with these ladies before to help you take care of some other girl that isn't me? When, how? Since when?"
Jake would not bring his face to meet hers. "Uh, let's go. Into the car, Em."
They were at a nice restaurant with bright light. "The decors are amazing." Emily said with a smile on her face, admiring the lovely room.
"Sure thing. It's a seven star rated restaurant." Jake said.
Emily's eyes widened. "It is?"
Jake smacked his lips. "I dunno."
There was a frown on Emily's face and it made Jake to smile. A young man made his way over to their table.
"What would you two lovelies like to have?"
"Let us see the menu first." Jake said and the man nodded.
"Right away, sir."
In less than 20 minutes, their table was already filled with all sorts of palatable delicacies.
"Jake, you've ordered everything on the fucking menu." Emily said. "Not that I'm complaining though."
Jake smiled. "Well, enjoy this while you can." He gave a worried sigh. "Besides, take this as a form of punishment."
Emily's brows were arched. "Punishment?"
Jake nodded. "The letters...I know you wrote them."
All the color disappeared from Emily's face and suddenly, the meal before her did not look so delicious again.
"That's right, I knew it was you when I read just the first lines."
"How? Oh, was it my hand writing?"
Jake shrugged at the thought, then laughed, his dimples crinkling. Emily had forgotten just how handsome her ex husband was. She had to stop herself from glaring at him before Jake would notice.
"No no, not the handwriting. It's just, I remember the night you left. I remember how you would write letters to me times without numbers, trying to talk some sense into my thick skull, and how foolish I would ignore you."
Emily's lips tightened, then she exhaled. "About that night,"
"No, it's fine. I was a jerk and you can never forgive me again." Jake said, lowering his head. He stuffed some grapes in his mouth.
Emily sighed. She wanted to tell him about his sister's threats. She wanted to tell him again that she had missed him! But how could she bring herself to say all this?
Then she went back to the past, a past she knew she never wanted to go to in the first place.
"That night when I left, what were you hiding from me?"
His gaze fell on the table and in his eyes, it was a sad sad look.
"Hey, Jake...look at me? What happened that night? Why did you even agreed to this divorce and now, you want to come back?"
"Because...because you didn't deserve how I treated you and...I still love you."
Her eyes shone open in bewilderment. Love? Jake loved her?
"Then, what happened that night Jake? What are you not telling me?"
"I--I..."
