Chapter 4 - Call of Sachiel

He should

Tokita was not an easy person to learn from. The first three days were spent just beating me up. He was releasing his stress on me and using me as a punching bag. Or so I thought, during the fourth day I was already a little used to his movements, and I could block a few and dodge some more.

I still got my ass beat though.

After that morning spar on the third day, Tokita switched the way I would learn his fighting style. He helped me fix my posture and then forced me to stay in it without moving while holding buckets of water in each hand, a backpack full of weights, and wrist weights.

Then, he left for groceries and told me to stay in position until he returned.

The first few minutes were excruciating. He came back roughly fifteen minutes later and I collapsed on the ground. My leg and arm muscles screamed and pleaded for my body to stop, but Tokita's sadism didn't let that happen.

The fourth day was spent drilling and beating the stances into my brain.

The fifth day was the most different, it was about learning techniques. He showed me step by step how to do each technique -- of course, only so much can be taught in one day, so the remaining two days were spent doing the same.

Before I knew it, it was time for me to leave already.

I stared at the gym I spent my week in with a somewhat saddened look on my face. I stretched and turned my back as Tokita looked at me with his arms crossed. He smiled, handing me a USB stick. I looked at him perplexed, what was he giving me now? Nowing Tokita it was footage of me getting my sweet soul beat out of me.

"You paid me for months worth of training." Tokita pushed the USB onto my chest and forced me to grab it before it fell. "Follow this training exercise every day. In a few months, I'll be going to Tokyo-3 to make sure you've been training." I felt a little conflicted. I was glad he was doing so much for me, traveling to Tokyo-3 would cost him money, especially since he'd still be paying rent. So why was he going so far?

"Don't make that face. You're my only student... make sure you get a job in Tokyo-3 because I'd appreciate it if you kept your patronage." Niko grinned, showing something other than indifference for a while since our training. He turned around and went inside his gym. "Well, get going, and don't you dare lose to anyone."

"You never told me the name of the martial art you taught me!" I yelled, asking him to finally announce what I had learned. It had kicks, punching, grabs, and throws. It was some form of mixed martial arts for sure.

"It's called the Niko Style. Make sure you don't lose a fight, it'll make us look bad. Well, if you're gonna lose, make sure you do so with a bang at the very least." Tokita didn't wait for another question or my answer, he opened the door closed it, and went back inside the ring. Meditating, as he usually did when he could.

Seeing as my fate in Tokyo-3 was to fight giant Kaiju, I didn't feel confident in Nerv letting me get a part-time job. I'd try to get something out of it though.

My travel through the metro was boring. I made use of the walkman Shinji had, it took me a few seconds to get it to work though seeing as I was not exactly from the 80s. Once it got going it was fine.

I read some manga and listened to music. I arrived at the absolute desert that was the city. I went to the phone booth sprinting for fear of my life. I grabbed the stupid postcard with Katsuragi's photo and called her as fast as I could.

For those not aware. The reason I did so was in the hopes of Katsuragi having some free time, so she could come pick me up as fast as possible. The angel was going to attack soon, and I wasn't keen on letting it.

"C'mon..." The phone rang twice, and I was greeted with the voice of a machine telling me I would not be able to communicate with anyone because all phone lines were down. In other words, the angel was here.

I had arrived early hoping I would come here before it arrived, but apparently being here hours early did not help me at all.

I felt something in my stomach churn, my guts were telling me something was approaching my location, something strong. I turned my head in the direction of that feeling. It was unnerving. I swallowed my spit and hid behind the phone booth.

"Are we really in 2015?" I questioned leaning my head against the buildings behind me. I sighed while listening to my walkman, the meeting time did change from the original, so hopefully, Katsuragi was not going to be too late. "Well, now I just have to wait. Since I am here hours before, the angel won't start attacking the city any time soon."

Something crashed behind me. I turned my head to the sound of a car alarm. A dark column resembling a foot broke the surface of the concrete, the car was so insignificantly small it looked like a hot-wheels. Turning my head up I saw an even larger figure.

A crow-like white mask between its shoulder blades, large and thin arms -- thin in comparison to its general shape -- a red orb lodged inside its torso with six ribs poking out of its grayish skin.

A mountain walking with sentience, that's what it looked like. That wasn't what frightened me, its sheer size was something that raised my heartbeats for sure, but the feeling I got out of it was indescribable. An incredibly negative reaction ran through my body as my blood turned cold. A contradicting myriad of emotions took me.

"Fucking Cthulu..." I cursed under my breath.

It was only when the giant mountain of a monster turned its skull-like face toward me that my thoughts snapped back into reality. "Oh, you're kidding me." I stumbled to my feet and began running. The giant had taken an interest in me, lowering its massive hand, it tried crushing me like a fly. I used the grip I had on the ground, and every muscle in my leg to dash sideways, breaking the windows inside a building. I was just fast enough to dodge the massive thumb coming my way.

I ran through the inside of the building to the other side as fast as I could. An explosive sound ran behind me as currents of wind caught my back, pushing me forward. The glass broke pre-emptively and I fell on the ground, rolling sideways. I used cursed energy to cover my body as I protected my nape and brought my knees together. That lessened the damage I took.

I tumbled to my knees and got up. Only a handprint of the lower part of the palm was left of the building I was just inside. On the other side, the giant looked my way, tilting its head as if to understand what I was.

"Oh no no no," I turned around and began running through another building. That monster had just broken through a building like it was a Jenga tower. I heard something chop the air hundreds of times over. Gusts of wind blew at me, making me lose my footing for a second. I looked up as hundreds of aircraft swarmed the giant like bees.

The sound of gunshots made me cover my ears. The sight of the giant being shot at made me shiver. I used the temporary distraction to run as fast as I could. I looked around at the cars surrounding me. If I knew this would have happened I would have learned to hot wire cars.

"Run run run run! RUN!" I yelled to myself while sprinting away. I ran using cursed energy to reinforce my legs. It was trickier than I thought, but it came naturally. I must have been going faster than a car because when I turned my head to see where the angel was, I could barely see it over the buildings behind me.

I stopped to catch my breath, putting my hands on my knees as I did.

Honking and the sound of tires screeching caught my attention. I turned my head fast enough to give the average person whiplash. A blue car drifted past me and threw itself on its side. The passenger seat's door opened. A woman with wave dark blue hair stared at me from the inside. She was wearing a sleeveless black dress with a silver cross necklace and on her face were square sunglasses.

"Get in!" she shouted. I quickly ran and got inside, closing the door, I turned to her. "Put on your seatbelt." Before I could speak, she took the car off neutral, pushed down the hand break, and stepped on the accelerator.

She quickly changed gears as the car accelerated. I was pushed back from the momentum and the car traveled past buildings at 200 kilometers an hour.

"Tsk!" She clicked her tongue, staring at the mirror in the car, "It's still following us." I didn't need her to tell me to know. I could feel a mass of energy walking our way. The shaking in the ground also helped make it apparent. Explosions coming from the aircraft above us tried to halt its movement but resulted in nothing more than a visual distraction. "Why is it so hell-bent on going after us."

I asked myself the same thing. I looked at my hands, then at the giant following us. It couldn't be... or could it? Was it following me because of my cursed energy?
