The morning sun drifted through the bungalow as Veda opened the door. She held coffee cups along with pastries in a brown paper bag. She dropped off the food in the kitchen before kicking off her shoes and releasing her hair, moving toward the guest bedroom, and softly knocking on the door with a big smile on her face.
"Marv, I brought some coffee and pastries," Veda said, pushing the door open to find the bedroom empty.
She moved to the French doors into the backyard, hoping to see her in the pool but she was nowhere to be found. Veda's heart sank, but she kept her mind focused. She went walking through the rooms of the bungalow, knocking on each door, but Marv was gone. Veda finally made it back into the kitchen, when she noticed the note on the magnet notepad.
Veda pulled out her phone. "Lace" is all she said.
"Yeah, I have eyes on her," Lace said into the phone as Veda grabbed her things.
