With how much pain the hound was experiencing it didn't even notice Renji's presence. Renji didn't waste any time as he punched the hound's head in with all the strength he could muster up. With just one punch to its already injured head, the wolf fell to the ground. Renji took out the branch that was stuck to the hound's head and started hitting the hound's head repeatedly.
Renji kept hitting the hound on its head until he could no longer hear the hound squeal. After making sure that the hound was dead Renji sat beside the dead body of the hound leaning on a tree. At this point, he was covered with blood all his clothes were drenched with just blood, and parts of his brain splattered onto him.
"ugghh… Where's my phone." Renji grunted as he tried to stand back up, he wanted to go back to the cottage as he had finally come to his senses. He took the branch that he used as a weapon and started walking. He suddenly realized that he wasn't carrying his phone with him currently, in his frenzy he didn't even bother to take the phone with him when he went out of the cottage. he couldn't even figure out where he was because of the dark, without wasting any more time he decided to walk the path that he thought would lead to the cottage.
"What the hell?" said Renji as he jumped to his right, he suddenly saw a blade made of element coming towards him at full speed. He was confused at first at what it might have been, he thought maybe he didn't kill the hound completely. Everything went blank for a moment for Renji as he saw what was in front of him, he had to stop his step as he saw something in front of him.
It was a pack of hounds all staring at him with bloodlust. They all seemed angry as they growled while staring at Renji who was covered in their friend's blood. Renji could immediately tell that this would be the end for him if he decided to fight them. Some things were impossible for someone like him who was just a lowly unawakened, he never tried to challenge those impossible things and this was no different. In a split second, Renji turned around and started to run as fast as he could, he didn't even count how many of them were there exactly.
Renji didn't look left and right as he ran, he didn't care where he was heading. He was fine with any direction as long as the path didn't lead him to those hound's mouth. Renji ran like there was no tomorrow for some time the hounds were unable to come even a little close to him. After a few minutes of chasing behind Renji, they had finally had enough they started to assault him with a barrage of elemental attacks. This tactic was finally able to slow Renji down even just a little, he had to constantly look back and dodge.
A few minutes into the chase Renji started to slow down very drastically as he was unable to dodge all the attacks, his legs and parts of his back were shredded because of the elemental attacks. The hounds were closing in on Renji, one of them was close enough to him and with a swing of its paw, it managed to make him stumble a little. The hound tried to make Renji trip and fall, but he managed the situation perfectly as he didn't fall he just tripped.
His movement had saved him from having a nasty fall, but it made him vulnerable for what came next. Taking the opportunity one of the hounds jumped towards Renji and bit one of his legs.
"Ahhhhhh..." Renji Cried in pain, the hound had bitten him very hard. Without even stopping a bit Renji just ran like nothing was dragging him down, he started to beat the Hound on its head with the branch he had in his hand.
"You....." the hound cried in pain as it was struck with the branch right at the eye. Instead of letting Renji's leg go, the hound started to wiggle as if it was trying to tear off his leg. Renji destroyed another eye of the hound but still didn't let go, even in pain the hound managed to tear off the muscle that was already in its mouth.
"FUUCCCKKKK…." Renji screamed at the top of his lungs as he felt the unbearable pain on his leg, he didn't even dare to look down as he knew he would get dizzy if he saw the wound on his leg.
'What is that?' thought Renji as he saw some kind of black smoke straight in front of him. Without thinking it through he sped up in that direction, he needed to get rid of these hounds if he wanted to survive. But he knew deep down killing 1 of them was a miracle he had no chance of killing these many in 100 lifetimes.
All he could think about was he wanted to live, he didn't want to die, he promised to find his grandma and grandpa, and he wanted to meet his family. He promised to keep everyone he loved safe; he didn't want to die just like this. That's all he was thinking as he ran towards the direction of the smoke. All he wanted to see were some people, he wanted to see if there were any people around the smoke.
He ran as if this was his last sprint, he didn't know if he would survive the night but he would not die without fulfilling his promise. He ran and dodged while he felt his life leaving his body, a lot of blood was spilling through the open wound that the hound created on his leg after going blind. He didn't know how long he would be able to run anymore, he had no energy left in him.
'I did make it here.' Renji thought as he smiled a little, he had finally been able to make it to the place where he saw the smoke coming from. Renji was content with himself he thought he might live if someone would help him now.
This was the day he would learn one of the many bitter truths of life, if you can't yourself no one else can either. Renji's feet slowed down as he saw what he walked into without even thinking, in the middle of a lush and green forest he was standing on a ground where it seemed everything had died off. It was as if the entire place had its life force sucked out, if anyone saw this scene they wouldn't even believe their eyes. The trees and plants everything looked withered, the soil looked like it could no longer bear any plants.
That was not the worst part, the worst part was that there were mountains of corpses just lying around. Some were huge some were small, and there were even corpses of beasts he had never seen but read of they were the corpses of s rank beasts. There were even a few human bodies too, everyone seemed as if they were very powerful before they died.
One thing was common for all of the corpses, they looked like they only had bones and skin on their body.
