Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Being a baby really isn't how the stories he read portrayed it, he can't get up and start exercising his muscles, hell, he can't even rock back and fort, he has tried it for sure, but it's just not working.

There's no way for him to speed up the process of being, well, a baby, that doesn't stop him from trying his best to crawl, at the very least.

It is almost impossible for him to try and get better at growing up, he thought he could be called a genius if he started crawling early, or even speak earlier, but…

Fiction really is different from reality.

Six months later, he was able to rock back and fort, trying to flip and crawl on his cot to no avail.

While he was rocking back and fort, one of the matrons leaned in closer and picked him up. "You shouldn't do that so much young man"

He frowned at the actions of the matron, not letting him do the only thing that makes him feel a little bit of control.

The matron looked back at him. "Don't give me that look young man, I understand the need to crawl, but you need to give it time"

She tapped him on the back for a bit and let him down on the cot again, afterwards she left the room.

"That lady is incredibly weird… can't believe she talks as if I can understand her." He thought. "I'm just a baby for fucks sake, and I don't even wanna be one in the first place!" he rocked back and fort in an angry manner, moving his arms and legs up and down until he fell asleep.

It's been nine long months since his reincarnation in this unfamiliar world, whether is the past or a new world, he can't be certain. At least the room it's a bit spacious.

After crawling for a while around the room he found himself arriving at the same conclusion he had reached days after being reborn. "To possess consciousness as a baby… it is truly a horrible fate" Then he flopped down, extending his limbs in frustration until he fell asleep.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Five years have passed, he can finally walk, run, write and read, surprising enough, the language it's one he was familiar with, English, despairingly so, it's British English, and while he learned English in school, it was more of an American English. His irritation was through the roof for the couple of years that he has been living in this unknown world, but now he's content to understand what the kids and the orphanage workers are saying all around him.

It didn't really help that everyone annoyed him with baby talk, on top of their accent, he exploded on them and ran to his room.

One of the few joys around the orphanage was reading, just like in his previous life, he enjoyed the feeling of getting lost in stories, sadly, there weren't that many books, and the few that they had, were the educational type.

"Allen, what do you think you are doing?" Exclaimed the matron in frustration at the sight of him reading again alone in his room.

Allen sighed in a really low tone, trying to not make Ms Sarah even angrier. "I was just reading Ms Sarah, is there something wrong?.

Ms Sarah just looked at Allen with a furrowed brow, then inclined her head a bit and massaged her brows, irritated by the situation. "I've told you time and time again," She took her glasses off. "While reading is good, you can't be locked up all day in your room, go out and play with the rest of the kids".

"Again with that, they don't even like me" Allen thought annoyed with the situation, ever since he exhibited signs of being more mature than the rest of them, they excluded him in a silent manner.

Allen scratched his hair, left his head hanging and just talked to Ms Sarah without looking at her. "They don't want to play with me Ms Sarah, I'm not the most… athletic person around here. He moves his arms around as if showing the room, then just shrugged at the situation.

Ms Sarah just left a really small sigh and sat down on the faded bed, turn back to look at Allen and pat down besides her, indicating for him to sit with her.

Allen dragged himself up from the dull floor and sat down on her side.

"I understand that your ages are far apart, and you are smarter than other kids your ages" She proceeded moving her hands around, trying to get a point across. "But, you need to get along better with the other kids, I'm not asking you to be their friend," She looked at him with a warm look, and Allen knew she was being honest with him. "but for a house to work, we need the help of everyone, at least to not hate each other".

"I will try Ms Sarah" He stood up from the faded bed, turned around to give the book to the Matron and dragged his feet down outside of the dull room.

She waved at him with a joyful smile on her face and the book on her lap.

"Let's get this over then" he resigned himself.
