"Please turn back the car, I left my documents at home," Vina told the driver as she searched through her bag, she gritted her teeth in frustration, her flight was scheduled for 4 PM, and she needed to be there for the very important business meeting, but the meeting would be all for naught since she left her documents at home. "Please hurry."
She said hopefully, if only the traffic wasn't as thick as this, she could get to her destination quickly; but it was impossible, there was a total roadblock.
It took her another forty-five minutes before she was able to reach home, her shaky hands fumbled for her keys and she unlocked the door to the living room. Malia and Jiyaan were not in sight and Vina glanced at her wristwatch. It was just some minutes past 3:30 PM, she could make it to the airport if the road got cleared and the driver was probably driving at 180 km per hour which was way past the speed limit.
She would rather risk getting arrested than miss the flights for her business meetings, she looked around the house suspiciously and wondered where her girls were. Her eyes met the documents that were sitting at the arm of the chair and she ambled towards the sofa.
Grabbing the envelope, her eyes darted to the small piece of panties that was sitting on the arm chair, Vina's eyes fell in a small frown, her eyes narrowing at the piece of underwear. She picked it up and looked upstairs. Suspiciously, she climbed up the stairs, and she could feel it now, the presence of people in the house, it couldn't be her children.
It was the sound of adults probably doing strenuous work, her eyes narrowed even more as realization dawned on her; she followed the sounds to the room and when she got there, her mouth fell open immediately.
Betrayal and hurt filled her entire being as she opened the door wider to get inside, her husband Karl and her younger sister were in bed their naked bodies entwined together.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" She yelled at them and only then did the couple disengage, Karl's eyes widened in shock, as he was very surprised to see his wife standing in the doorway when she was supposed to be on a business trip. "Karl! Iris!"
Iris scooped the duvet in her hands and covered her body with it, she hid her face from her sister as well letting Karl handle it.
"Karl, I asked you a question, what do you think you are doing with my sister?" Vina rephrased trying her best to be composed.
"Vina please calm down." Karl puts on his trousers in a hurry as he rushes towards his hyperventilating wife, he knows she has bad health and she doesn't respond pretty well to shock. "Vina, please."
"Let go of me!" She yelled brushing his hands away from her. "Don't you dare touch me with your dirty hands, you filthy pig?"
"Sister please…" Iris mouthed as she got off the bed, and approached her sister who was visibly shaking in an attempt to help her calm down because of her bad health. Vina threw a loud slap across Iris's face; the force was heavy enough to make her fall to the ground and the sides of her lips tore.
"If I'm your sister, then you should stay away from my husband," Vina growled again, before turning to glare at her husband who had a guilt-stricken look on his face. "Get your stuff and get out of my goddamned house, both of you."
"This is your problem…" Karl argued suddenly raising his voice. "You are so in charge that you never listen to me, even when it's for your good."
"What?" Sounding very betrayed she drawled. "Is it because I was "in charge" that made you cheat on me? With my sister??"
"I know I'm wrong but, I had always made it known that I didn't love you, Vina." Karl's confession was like a blast, Vina knew very much that he didn't love her and he was much more in love with her sister since their relationship was nothing more than an arranged marriage between two families. "Even though you knew I loved Iris, and I begged you desperately to call off the wedding, you were adamant because you wanted to take me away from your sister."
That much was the truth, nevertheless, she never thought of getting married to Karl just to hurt her sister, she got married to him because she loved him.
"And because you weren't allowed to marry the woman you love; you think it is okay to do this?" She questioned with a raised brow. "Karl it's not my fault that I don't listen to you, you have never been sensible not even once. We have two beautiful daughters together and you're here sleeping around with my sister, in our bed."
There was a silence between them before Vina's eyes turned toward her sister who was still sitting silently on the floor.
"Is it because of your grudge for me that made you do this?" She asked in the direction of Iris, Iris slowly lifted her face and wiped the blood away from the corner of her mouth.
"I have no excuse; I love Karl so much that I don't know how to stay away from him." She confessed in a soft voice; Vina nodded her head and something in the whole situation seemed very funny to her. "I'm sorry, Vina."
"Sorry?" Vina scoffed blinking back the bitter tears that stirred in her eyes. "You came here on the pretense of going to college, and I accepted you in my home with open arms only for you to stab me in the back?"
"This isn't completely our fault; you don't get the right to put the whole blame on us." Karl defended and Iris held his hands.
"Karl, please."
Seeing the way, the two communicated, made Vina angrier, so angry that she bit down so hard on her lips and she began to bleed.
"Get out of my house, you stupid bitch!" Vina snapped as she grabbed her sister's dark luscious hair and dragged her out of the doorway; Iris cried out in pain as she tried to loosen her sister's grip entangled in her hair.
"Stop it!" Karl yelled as he pushed his wife away from his helpless lover. "If you are going to keep being like this, then you can hand me the divorce papers."
Nothing could compare to the look of betrayal in Vina's eyes when Karl suggested a divorce, and then she realized just how unloved she had been in her marriage for all those trying years.
"You're going to divorce me for her?" She asked in disbelief but Karl ignored the question and hurled Iris up before walking her away from Vina. "I will make sure you regret it, you hear me!"
"There is a pressing issue that we need to discuss with you, Vina." Karl started in a low and soft voice; Vina glared at Iris first before her blue eyes returned to Karl's brown ones. "I need you to listen calmly to me, Vina."
"Just how bad can it be when I have seen worse from you?" She replied sarcastically making Karl nod painfully at her.
"Iris is pregnant." It was the bomb for Vina, even though she tried to brace herself for the worst, she didn't expect the extreme. She felt her heart sink and she gazed surprisingly at her husband.
"How could you…" Her voice faltered at the end, and she burst into tears, she didn't expect her husband to betray her in the worst possible way. "How could you do this to me?"
"You can blame me later, Vina, please let's look for a solution." His voice came back pleadingly.
"She has to terminate it." She said with renewed confidence.
"I can't," Iris said with tears filled in her own eyes as well. "Don't you think you are being too selfish, sister? You took away my lover and now you want to take away my child?"
Vina's glare turned in the direction of Karl as if she was expecting him to say something.
"I also tried to convince her to abort the child." He said this time, Karl was in Vina's defense. "But since you are her sister, you could explain the implications to her."
Disgusting… That was what came to her mind, Karl was a disgusting pig.
"I don't care about the implications; I will not allow the bastard of my husband to run around my house!" She snapped banging her hands on the table. "Iris, you have to give up the baby, or else I will tell the whole family what you have done."
Iris's eyes widened immediately, telling the whole family is equal to a death sentence, her father is a very strict man and if he ever finds out what she had done… she might be gifted away to the purebloods for the coming crimson moon ritual and from what she had heard, it was worse than death.
"Please…" Iris begged, "Please don't tell them."
