Chapter 68 - Vol 3 Chapter 18: The Journey part 2

Foin had gathered the snow he could reach from his position, and then he sighed. Finally, he once again stood up and stepped out of the carriage. He took a deep breath, inhaling the freezing air, and then looked at Énilo.

"Hm... I have a feeling now that I have spent more time here that it has gotten even colder."

Foin thought as he scratched his nose in the cold. He stayed in the cart for a few more minutes but eventually got out again. He was bored, and unlike at home, he could do nothing other than wait.

As he was outside, he once again looked around. The people around him kept working on cleaning the streets. However, he noticed they didn't approach the area around the cart. It was clearly visible, as there were no footsteps in the snow, and the level just increased. The coach was once again sitting at the front of the cart and was almost too still.

Foin slightly grinned, and just like previously, he started collecting the snow using his inventory. Every once in a while, he pulled back his inventory just to see how much snow he had collected. The number just barely increased every time he chopped out a line of snow. However, it was not something new to him. The same happened with dirt and water. As he kept collecting snow, he finally realised why the number was increasing so slowly.

He believed the reason was that since it was hard to gasp, his inventory used cubic meters or something of similar value and size. That would explain why he stored so much dirt and water, yet his number barely increased. As he had finished collecting the snow, he looked around once again.

Although a few people were looking at him, the moment he looked back at them, they all turned away and continued working as if trying to avoid eye contact with him.

"Maybe they didn't see anyone collecting shows like this?"

Foin muttered under his breath as he shifted his gaze at Énilo, who was staring into the distance. Out of curiosity, Foin looked at the same and noticed that Linyer was slowly walking back towards the cart in the heavy snow. Finally, after noticing, Liyner sat back into the cart. He was happy that she was finally back. He wanted to finish his quest as soon as possible.

Énilo Followed Foin as well and landed beside him on the seat. She slightly stretched her arms up above her head and then just stared at the door, waiting for Liyner to finally get in, which although took a few short minutes did happen.

"Sorry for the wait... It took a bit longer than I anticipated!"

Linyer said as she finally sat down and closed the door. Shortly after that, the cart finally started moving again. Foin nodded but did not reply; instead looked at the bag in Linyer's hand.

"Oh, right... I don't know if you will like it, but I managed to gather two different kinds of seeds. One of them is a herb with quite a unique scent... As for the other, I don't know much about it."

The girl added as she extended her hand with the bag in it. As soon as Foin heard the great news, a smile crawled up onto his face. He quickly took the bag from the girl's extended hand. Foin quickly put the sack into his bag, as he didn't want to risk dropping the seeds.

Although he was curious about what the seeds looked like, he knew that he was not exactly well versed in seeds, and the fact that he was given a seed which was not present in his previous world was high.

"Also, due to the heavy snow, it seems the journey will be a bit longer than we anticipated."

Linyer said, and she quickly put the red crystal back onto the seat to once again warm up the cooled cart. Foin slowly leaned entirely back against the seat and, for a brief moment, stared at the roof.

"How much longer will it take for us to get to our destination?"

Foin spoke up in a bored tone. His voice was just barely whisper-level.

"I... It seems that it will take roughly four more days. In the worst-case scenario, it will take five more days. I have received information regarding the situation in the capital, though they might have slightly coloured out the situation."

This new piece of information was something Foin did not expect. Previously, he believed that they were going to just an average city or town at most, not the capital. Also, the fact that Linyer managed to receive information about the capital meant that there was some sort of device which allowed long-range communication.

Foin's curiosity and even his interest were slightly enhanced, though he tried to keep calm and instead continued with another question.

"It felt as if it was much colder, and even if it snowed more than it did back at my home... Is it usual for the winter to get this devastating and harsh?"

"No, this is the worst winter we have ever had, and it is unfortunate that the centre of this terrible event is always the capital... You could say that the snow and cold you experienced at your base were nothing but mild compared to the capital... That is why it is quite difficult to get to the capital in the winter."

Linyer explained as she slightly shook her head and then looked Foin in the eye. Who, almost as if feeling her gaze, looked back into her eyes almost instantly. Though he was lost in thought, this strange weather just turned out to be far worse than he had imagined. For the time being, his current set of clothes was perfectly fine and protected him from the cold, but he was unsure how it would hold up against the cold at the capital.

"Alright... In the meantime, let us eat!"

Foin added after a brief moment while still gazing into Liyner's eyes. From his inventory, he pulled out some peppers, and then they started eating.
