Dawn broke and sunlight shone into cave from the opening above. Tarius had kept watch for the rest of the night while Donny and Mary were asleep, and I in my thoughts. "Are you alright, brother?" he asked me concerned. "Yeah! I was just reminiscing, that's all," I said worried about the team.
Tarius moved aside to give me room to get on my feet because he was blocking my path. He is quite the understanding angel, and also knowledgeable enough not to indulge in bad situations.
Donny and Mary were in a portable tent that is equipped in our suits. To build it requires nanites from two suits, which is a lot to ask for. They both woke up, Donny looked like he was in a stable the whole night and Mary, I can't say what she looked she got out of the tent, horrid.
Tarius was pale when saw them. Stared for two minutes and snapped back to reality. "Why have you chosen them to be in this ordeal?" he asked.
"What are you trying to say Tarius, that I have sent them to their graves or is it that you realized they are?" I asked him in a calm tone.
"Very well. But do they know the truth about their parents?" he had asked.
"No, they are not ready to learn the truth." I answered and I felt a bit shaky.
Everything was packed up during our preparations and had to check the map to identify our location. We were under the market block, just two kilometers away from the center of the city. We still had a long way to go. We ventured further into the cave and led us to a hidden room.
Evidently exposed by light exiting the one way windows, however we could not see inside. I opened the seemingly new door. It seemed that the cave was artificial. We entered to our surprise a research facility unknown to the public.
It was barren and deserted, chemicals spilt everywhere. There were bloody bodies and some were corroded enough to be unidentifiable, mostly dissolved in the chemicals leaving the bones bare. It was a revolting and horrid scene, although Donny and Mary were horrified by what had transpired here.
We had to find out what happened or not at all bother. We searched around the room and stumbled upon an elevator, however neither of us had a keycard. Searching for it was the only task we had at the moment until we had someone moaning in agony. We got by the person, had chemicals all over his body.
"Here... take this keycard to get out of here, but please kill me. Please kill me, I don't want to feel this pain anymore," he said in excruciating pain. I could not do it myself, I had set my mind to never harm humans. I didn't want to take a human life, no one did. Then Donny decided to take the chance of helping someone.
He pulled out his pistol and shot the man in the head. I witnessed him die in an instant, his head ending up everywhere even on our suits. "What the hell did you do?" Mary asked him.
"I-I-I put him out of his misery, exactly what he wanted," he said in defense.
He had never taken a life that didn't deserve before and now that he did it had traumatized him. I took his arm and lowered his pistol, "I know what you are going through right now. It was not an easy decision to make but that's life for you. You did what needed to be done. He was in agony and could not do anything in his current state, you had no choice but to fulfill his request," I told him.
Donny was still shaken by this event and he looked at me with horror in eyes, "I thought we weren't killing civilians on this mission, Captain," he said in anger. I turned away with nothing to say and went to the elevator. Mary on the other hand did not look fazed by this event because she had been put through it before. Nevertheless she had to help him cope with it.
I swiped the keycard and the elevator doors opened. We entered in a rush to leave the facility and progress to the centre of the city. Got out of the elevator on the ground floor only to be met by a demon, which was awaiting me by the exit all alone. Everyone pointed their NRF-24 rifles at it and I sensed that it was a strong and unique demo, not like the others.
Most demons are similar but some can develop strength and power succeeding the others. This one was no different. This one unlike any other could speak and think. I noticed it was part of the lower rank powers and it was the weakest one of them all. Red skin, dark hair, black eyes, crimson irises and small horns, that you could see protruding through its hair.
It looked at us, "Mhm, this is odd, two humans, an angel and you... you are quite peculiar for a human, yet you are not an angel like him," it said. It stared me in the eye and before I could blink I above the ground and it had its hand on my throat. My team shot at it and let me go, as it got injured it moved away.
"Those weapons are not like the others are they, it seems I have to isolate you from them," it said malevolently. I looked at Donny, Tarius and Mary, and told them to leave me behind so that I could deal with the demon.
"We can't leave Captain," Mary said.
"I said go!" I shouted.
It did not go after them as it felt that they were too weak and only set it's gaze on me. "You have made a mistake having them leave you. I will go after them once I have your soul!" it told me. I smirked at it. It's situation was way worse than it thought, "You got it all wrong. Your soul is mine." I told it happily in my normal voice without the eyepatch.
In less then a second its throat was in hand then proceeded to slam it into the ground. It put out my hand to grasp my blade that appeared in my hand and stabbed the demon in the heart, the blade only ten centimeters into the ground. It was perplexed and did not know what to say.
"Sadly your stay here was short-lived Damocus and I hope you give the demon king my remarks, after telling him Ravedos sent you back home," I said without remorse. I watched Damocus burn to ashes and knowing he was going back to Hell - which sucks so much-.
I rushed over to my team, running faster than a normal human being and kept it up for five minutes until I caught up to them. Should I have been tired? Yes, but I was not. Besides I did not really go at my fastest speed. I found them on their way to the DCPD -Downtime City Police Department-. Why? I do not know either. I called them and they waited for me, surprised I did not have a scratch on me except for Tarius. He knew that I would hold back around Donny and Mary.
