Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Confrontation

What have I done? How can I be so careless?

Was I that blinded by anger and hatred that I couldn't even control my mouth? What is she going to do?

Wait… Is she going to report this to Alpha Carl or Franco?

Franco… his name made my breath hitch, what will he think of me when he finds out?

He trusted me, regarded me as his own sister, he gave me an important position in his heart but I couldn't keep that trust.

I know I was scared initially and hesitant to be his sister but as I started to spend time with him, even though it was little, I realized that I had already considered him as my older brother.

They'll probably hate me for my actions, even if I explain, I don't think they'll believe me. And I don't think I'll be able to bear their hate.

I dug a grave for myself, they trusted an outsider and when they learn the truth, I don't think they'll be lenient and willing to help an outsider again.

Urghhh!!

I turned in my bed for the umpteenth time. Since Mariya left, I've been feeling very restless and uneasy, like they'll barge in at any second and demand I get out.

Although she promised not to utter a word to any soul until I want to, she was still curious to know why I lied in the first place. I don't think she'd believe me if I told her the reason though.

'Enough of these depressing thoughts, get up and take a shower', Noella spoke making disgusted faces at me.

'Noella! You're here, I - I th-thought…', I couldn't even form a coherent sentence, it's no wonder she calls me dumbo.

'Hey, I'm not leaving you so get that thought out of your tiny head', my eyes narrowed in annoyance, she had to ruin the moment… even if my head is tiny.

'Hey, I'm not annoying, you are'.

She scowled at me but I smiled in relief, glad she was talking with me.

'You really thought I'd leave you? Ha! Puh-lease', she rolled her eyes, still being annoying but I was happy enough to ignore it.

'Yeah, whenever I tried reaching you, you weren't there, it was like our bond was broken. I couldn't even feel you'.

'It was just a dream Adira and you were too traumatized to realize that. It's okay, it's fine and do not ever entertain thoughts of me leaving you… ever', she soothed me like a mother.

'But there's something I have to tell you and I don't think you would be this positive after listening to it', I said with uncertainty.

'What is it?', she asked with urgency in her tone. She could feel my helplessness through our bond.

'It's about Drew and Hannah… they're going to… mate, tonight', my voice lowered to a whisper at the end.

She growled loudly, scowled, snarled and scratched to take control but I kept her down with all my might so she wouldn't create havoc. Then she started whimpering.

'Noella…', I tried to reach her and comfort her but she sit me out and closed our connection.

Sighing, I looked at the ceiling and earlier worries started to flood my mind

I thought of the possibilities that could happen ahead and some part of me was preparing to face it.

After an internal debate, I got up with a frown on my face. I should do what Noella told me to do.

Getting up, I went to the bathroom and took a hot long shower but I couldn't control my mind from thinking of various scenarios. I was so caught up that I didn't realize the time.

Wrapping a towel around me, I went to the wardrobe and settled on a pair of shorts and top. After getting dressed, I was just going into the kitchen to prepare dinner when I heard the doorbell go off, i almost jumped on the spot.

Placing a hall over my fast beating heart, I kept on stumbling back until the cabinet handle dug into my back.

Oh God! What should I do?

Shaking my head to remove the disturbing thoughts, I grabbed a knife with shaky hands and made my way to the door.

Holding the knob with hesitation, I finally opened the door after the bell rang again, the knife gripped tightly behind my back ready to strike at any threat.

But what I saw didn't help me calm down, it just increased my worries and nervousness. There were three angry people at my door with rage plastered over their faces, besides them there was one other person with a smug expression that said 'gotcha'.

"Why didn't you tell us?", Alpha Carl was the first to break the tense silence.

"Why were you hiding this from us? You didn't trust us?", Franco asked with a hint of sadness in his eyes and looked at me in disbelief.

"I thought you saw me as a brother to share everything with, but I was wrong, right?", his face showed hurt and anger.

I gasped as tears welled up in my eyes, I'm the reason he's upset. I was going to say something when Luna June interrupted.

"We thought we were your family and should know such important things", she gave me the saddest look I had ever seen.

The word 'family' was the last straw which made my tears fall unrestrained, I collapsed on my knees and put my face in my hands as I cried.

"Uhh, umm, sorry Adira", Franco said with panic as he knelt in front of me. He took me in his arms and put my face in his chest while I cried.

"What happened doll? Why are you crying? We were just joking. You're really freaking me out now. Tell me what happened", he stroked my hair.

As my sobs died down, I leaned away from his embrace, my eyes glued to the ground.

"Joking?", I asked.

"You all hate me, don't you?", my voice came out groggy.

Franco lifted my chin but I closed my eyes not ready to face the emotions in his eyes which I know must be hatred and mistrust.

"Doll what happened, open your eyes please", he requested.

I did but… I just found worry and confusion.

"Why do you think we hate you?" he inquired.

"Be-because I lied to all of you even when you were so kind to me", I looked down with guilt and shame.

Luna June replied this time, "Yes, were shocked and angry at first but it doesn't mean…"

"We hate you".
