Chapter Seventeen: The Immortality Trial, Part 2
I have been transported.
Ah, where am I?
Have I been transported to the frozen north? I feel like I am going to freeze from the cold.
All I can see here is snow and white ice, cold everywhere.
What should I do? What is the court's verdict? I can't see anything in front of me except for snow, white ice, and cold.
My beautiful red scales are trembling from the cold.
I regret my decision to accept the offer of an unknown voice. Why did I accept? Have I gone mad?
The wind suddenly changed.
The calm atmosphere was abruptly shattered by an uninvited guest.
From the fog, a shadow of a wolf or a tiger appears, but it doesn't seem like any ordinary predator.
It was staring at me with almost human eyes.
It exhaled smoke-like mist from its nose as it sniffed my scent.
Then it bared its teeth and large yellow-stained fangs before letting out a low growl that caused a shiver down my spine.
The immense size of the beast was unnatural! I had considered myself too big for this… but this was no joke.
As I looked into its sharp eyes, the name of this creature appeared in my mind.
It's the Ice Tiger.
I gathered all my courage and strength and let out a roar.
His body tensed when he heard the intensity of my roar, and the polar tiger quickly retreated, disappearing into the fog as if it were just part of this icy white world.
My heart pounded loudly in my chest, and my eyes moved from side to side.
"Where is he?" My mind wandered further as I scanned the area, searching for the beast.
If it weren't for the occasional low growl, I would have undoubtedly made the mistake of thinking it had already left.
"I am being hunted." For some reason, this thought made my blood boil with an unfamiliar rage.
It felt as though a useless sense of pride had taken over me. "How could a creature like the polar tiger hunt me? I am a great dragon!" This is what my body and mind screamed, and it's what my instincts yelled in my face.
I pulled away from him as I moved towards the icy storms. I was expecting the beast to attack, and there was simply no reason to rush in like a fool when the opponent was clearly faster and had the terrain advantage.
However, my body seemed to have a mind of its own. Without conscious thought, my paws moved forward, and instead of waiting for him to come to me, I decided to go to him. No one hunts this dragon, my blood cried out.
My rational mind screamed that this was a bad decision, but my instincts disagreed.
So, I simply continued to flow with the air while calming my anxious mind with force.
Soon, the excitement of my first chase numbed my fear and overwhelmed my body, filling me with a strength I had never felt before.
I scanned the area in front of me, yet I failed to spot my opponent. It seemed he was also somewhat hesitant to attack.
Then, a large white cat-shaped figure appeared before my eyes.
It was the ferocious tiger I had been fleeing from earlier, and it didn't seem like an easy opponent.
It had already started to disdain attacking ordinary creatures at the very least. It hunted creatures at the level of polar bears or winter wolves—creatures that could spark its hunting instincts.
I rushed toward the beast quickly, using my wings to increase my speed as I glided through the air for the first time in my life. A furious roar escaped my lips, shocking the polar tiger, which hastily raised its paw with claws extended to block my attack.
For a moment, it seemed like time slowed down as I approached him, and I could see his eyes widen as I moved my body through the air and attacked with my spiked tail.
Although my dragon instincts seemed to crave nothing but tearing the tiger into pieces, my mind still hesitated to use my jaws or claws against him because I feared the range of his attack. In the end, I resorted to using my tail.
Splash!
My attack collided with his claws, and the beast was thrown into the air before crashing heavily into an ice mound with a high-impact blow.
I was momentarily stunned by the power behind my strike, as I hadn't expected things to go so well—this was my first real battle since being reborn in this world.
A fierce dragon's roar escaped from my nostrils, making the savage frost tiger feel uncomfortable.
Its fur stood on end, and the hunger in its eyes turned into a strong sense of fear and alertness. It seemed to realize that it shouldn't mess with me, and that I wasn't an easy prey.
However, that moment of distraction proved nearly fatal. As soon as it recovered, the tiger let out a cry of pain before charging at me relentlessly, its gaze turning crimson as all signs of intelligence drained from its eyes.
Its sudden attack came so fast that I barely managed to avoid the first claw strike by shifting my head awkwardly to the side. Then, the beast lunged toward my neck with its jaws wide open.
I panicked for a moment when I saw its sharp yellow teeth coming at me. I quickly retaliated with a strike from my claws, trying to keep it away—I did not want to separate my neck from my body.
In response to my attack, the tiger's body twisted in a motion so fluid and unexpected that it dodged my strike easily.
I barely managed to scratch the side of its face, but it was enough to draw blood since my claws were extraordinarily sharp.
It seemed the tiger didn't care about its wound as it continued its assault. Its massive jaws broke through my defense and clamped onto my left shoulder.
Raw
A cry of pain escaped my mouth as the Arctic tiger's sharp teeth pierced my beautiful crimson scales and blood seeped from between its teeth, staining the icy white ground red.
With my jaw pinned to my shoulder, the beast shook its head left and right as it tried to tear my shoulder into pieces that only exacerbated the pain.
My eyes turned redder with rage as I sank my teeth into the back of his neck with a sickening crunch.
My teeth penetrated his thick fur with ease as warm blood flowed into my mouth and face as my vision turned crimson.
His body shuddered for a moment before he used his paw to tear into my stomach, trying to convince me to release my death clutch.
With adrenaline pumping through my veins, his blows only enraged me more as I brought my claws and wrapped them around his back before digging into his flesh, tearing at his fur and flesh.
It was a battle of perseverance to see who would hold out the longest, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the one to lose
My vision was blurry, even though I continued to work on adrenaline, the blood loss was slowly entering my brain. The tiger was no better, the fierce grip that tore at my flesh had diminished as he no longer struggled as much.
The claws that had torn into my chest were now hanging limply at his side, and sensing my opportunity, I sank my sharp teeth into the back of his neck with renewed vigor, causing more blood to flow.
With a final tearing blow, the beast's neck broke as its jaw finally loosened from my shoulder, its body no longer twitching.
At that point, I pushed my teeth in further for good measure and encountered no resistance at all.
When I saw that the beast was finally dead, all my strength seemed tohave left me instantly as I collapsed to the ground with a loud thud, and the polar tiger's corpse fell
on my side, blood seeping from her wounds.
My face and scales were stained with dark crimson blood, and my shoulder was missing a few pieces of flesh where a large bite mark remained, a testament to my previous battle.
My chest felt like it was on fire as blood seeped from the large claw marks left by the leopard's last desperate attack.
It was a close call to enter into a brutal battle.
There was no graceful dodging, no flashy attacks, nothing like that. Just two monsters fighting.========================== ========================== ==========================
