Chapter 4 - Discharge

As the days turned into weeks, the hospital room became a temporary haven for Alex, though the weight of the unknown still loomed over him. Mark, his family, and the medical staff continued their relentless efforts to understand and combat the mysterious affliction that had taken hold.

The healing of Alex's neck wound remained a baffling anomaly, defying medical logic. Dr. Reynolds, along with a team of experts from various fields, worked diligently to find any clues that might shed light on the strange transformation.

Despite their best efforts, the source of Alex's condition remained elusive. The hallucinations that tormented him every night slowly began to ebb away, their connection to the moon becoming increasingly evident as the full moon approached. The nights leading up to it were still unsettling, but it seemed as if the grip of the hallucinations was weakening.

One afternoon, as Mark sat with Alex in the hospital room, he shared his concerns with his friend. "Alex, I've been doing some research, trying to find anything that might help us understand what's happening to you. It's clear that something triggers these hallucinations, but why? And why is your wound healing so fast?"

Alex, his gaze filled with a mix of fear and determination, nodded. "Mark, I appreciate your efforts. I just want to know what's happening to me and how we can stop it."

Mark continued, "I've talked to the officer who came to investigate the attack that happened and I reached out to a researcher, Dr. Sarah Carter, who specializes in unexplained medical phenomena. She's agreed to come and speak with the medical team. Maybe she can provide some insights."

Later that day Officer Bruce came back to the hospital to get Alex's side of the story, Only to be the same as Mark's except this time Alex mentions Mark shooting the beast on its left leg. A few days later, Dr. Carter arrived at the hospital. She was a renowned expert in her field, known for her ability to solve medical mysteries that left others stumped. She met with Alex, his family, and the medical team, delving into the details of his condition.

After a lengthy discussion, Dr. Carter shared her thoughts. "This is unlike anything I've seen before. The rapid healing of your wound, Alex, is astonishing. And the connection to the moon, the hallucinations – it's as if there's an external force at play. I'm willing to explore this further, but it might take time."

As the moon loomed on the horizon, the doctors informed Alex about his upcoming discharge from the hospital. A sense of relief washed over him, not only because he would be leaving the confines of the hospital but also because the hallucinations that had plagued him for so long were slowly beginning to fade.

With each passing day, the full moon drew nearer, and the hospital staff prepared for Alex's discharge. The fading of his hallucinations had brought a glimmer of hope, but the mystery of his condition remained as enigmatic as ever. Dr. Sarah Carter continued to be a constant presence, her determination unwavering.

Back at the Silverton Police department

"Alright, team, I need to brief you on the situation. Officer Bruce has conducted an investigation into the animal attack that happened a few weeks ago. Here's what we know so far."

"Bruce spoke with the victim, who reported that the animal involved was a giant wolf standing on its hind legs. The victim provided details about the location, and the description of the animal."

"The attack occurred in the San Juan Mountains. The victim sustained injuries during the attack, and they've received medical attention. Bruce, please share the details of the victim's injuries with our medical unit so they can provide us with a full medical report."

"Given the nature of the reported animal, we need to take precautions for the safety of the public. We'll coordinate with animal control to see if they can assess the situation and provide guidance on potential dangers and If needed, we may need the assistance of wildlife experts."

"Let's schedule regular briefings to keep everyone updated on this investigation. If you come across any leads or evidence, please share it with the team."

"Bruce, make sure to keep the victim informed about the progress of our investigation and reassure them that we're doing everything we can to address the situation."

"Meeting dismissed."
