Kaylee woke me up that afternoon by moving the curtains and letting the hot sunshine inside her bedroom. I slept with her last night when I arrived. "Wake up sleeping beauty, prince charming is about arrive." she announced cheerfully.
"What?" My eyes immediately opened. Did they find me already? How did my mate find me?
Kaylee noticed my panic and swiftly assured me. "That was a joke Lu-ann. I'm sorry, I forgot your mind would still be in sleep mode."
I looked at Kaylee, confused about what she was talking about. Then I remembered that I already told them about the reason why I ran away from home last night and walked to the pack house; I haven't told anyone yet, even Kaylee that I also almost met my mate last night but I got scared and ran before he could find me.
They were shocked to see me when they opened the door because it was already past midnight, but they were even shocked when I told them why I had to get out of my home at that time.
Ben and the two males I now know as Jack and Candor arrived at our house at almost eleven o'clock that night. I have just come home from work and was getting ready to sleep when I heard Ben's familiar voice. I could not even believe he would be back so I went out through my window and walked around the house to peep outside the window of the living room.
My heart rapidly started racing when I saw the three guests of my stepfather, Ben and his two partners in crime. I could not believe he had the guts to come back here or that my stepfather would even let him in the house after everything they did to me.
Slowly, I went back to my bedroom through the window, packed some clothes and essentials and got out. I was going to walk all the way across town to get to the pack house but already, I was feeling tired and sleepy. So I chanced on crossing through the Dark Midnight Pack land that connected my pack's land.
Alpha Cain, our pack's alpha sent warriors to our house and catch Ben and his companions, but they were already gone when the warriors arrived. They must have immediately realized that I have gotten out.
Because of Ben's reappearance and my stepfather's acceptance of him without thought to my safety, the alpha did not allow me to go back home. So, I stayed in one of the rooms at the pack house.
Damon's POV
It has been three days now since I scented my mate that night of my birthday. The scent was very faint, almost like I only smelled it because of the wind, but I knew it was my mate's scent. Even my wolf knew it was her. It smelled of pine and spring.
I walked inside the house from the terrace and tried to find that scent inside the house where a lot of my schoolmates arrived to attend my birthday party, but to no avail. Only when I got out of the house did I smell it again. It was unbelievably coming from the forest. I immediately mind-linked Mark, my soon-to-be Beta, and asked him to come with me to the forest. I did not know why my mate would be in the forest, but I knew I had to find her.
I was excited, my wolf was agitated as well, wanting to get out and find her himself. My heart, beat in anticipation as we neared the border. She must be from the Dark Moon Pack and came to find me.
Mark, who walking beside me was about to say something but I mind-link him. "Do not make any noise." I wanted to surprise my mate.
We walked quickly and quietly, expecting to find her at the border, waiting for me, but when we came upon the clearing where the barbed wires were, no one was there. But I knew she has been there. I walked nearer to the barbed wires and sniffed. Her scent was even stronger here. She held these barbed wires going up. I just cannot believe it, but it seems, my mate was running away from me and not coming to me as I expected.
I wanted to climb the barbed wires but Mark stopped me. We could not risk being caught trespassing the Dark Moon Pack's land. He reminded me that tomorrow was a school day, I could sniff her out then.
I was slowly going out of my mind. I couldn't sleep that night of excitement. Perhaps, she got scared of meeting her mate and ran from me, but tomorrow was a school day. I will sniff her out at school. I may not know who she is, but I know she belongs to the Dark Moon Pack. Even Mark said so when he sniffed the barbed wire and smelled the scent of Dark Moon Pack.
But the first day after my birthday proved fruitless. I could not smell her scent anywhere in the school. I walked all around school, sniffing out her scent but to no avail.
The second day, I walked through town, together with my soon to be officers, but still, I could not find her scent anywhere. Could she be hiding from me purposely?
On the third day, I was getting frustrated. Lack of sleep, and two days' worth of disappointment was making me snap and growl at everyone. Even the ladies who used to hang around me and "helped" me every time I got stressed or frustrated, were unsure of how to appease me.
On the night of the third day after my birthday, I ran through the forest. The warriors doing patrols would look at me in shock as I jump even the high mountains, not caring if I ever get hurt. I stayed in the forest until midnight, when my father, the King Alpha, came to find me.
He watched me from a distance, breaking branches from leaves, turning big stones and throwing them in the water, and punching big, hard trees and mutilating them.
Finally shifting back into human form when I got too tired.
I saw my father walking towards me, but I was too depressed to acknowledge his presence. He came and sat beside me. "Do you want to talk about it son?" He asked.
I sighed the deepest sigh in my whole fucken life and said in a broken voice. "She's hiding from me." And I cried. For the first time since I was ten years old, I cried in front of my father. I did not want to cry. I wanted to show my father that I am strong, ready to be the next King Alpha, but I seem to be getting depressed each day that I do not have my mate with me.
He waited for me to be done crying then said, "Why don't we go home and make a plan?"
That night, we made a one-week plan to find my mate. For whatever reason, that I still couldn't find her, I have their support in finding her.
Day one (fifth day after my birthday): Unmated she-wolf's assembly
My father called Alpha Cain and requested that all unmated ladies be assembled in their home at six o'clock in the evening. And with the word all - meaning every female from all status, from omega to the beta, if still unmated but has shifted. My father and I, together with my beta, gamma and delta will be going in and personally extend an invitation for our annual Mate-Matching ball which is usually done through a letter extended to Alpha Cain.
We entered the alpha's house, and I immediately knew, she wasn't there. I looked at all the she-wolf's faces, looking at me expectantly. I know they knew I was looking for my mate, news travels fast after all, especially about Damon Hunter, the soon-to-be King Alpha. What they didn't know was that I already know I have a mate. I just have to find her.
Day Two(sixth day after my birthday): Walk in the forest
The second day after the assembly of all unmated but shifted she-wolfs, my father once again called Alpha Cain and requested that I and my soon-to-be-officers be allowed to walk around their forest.
This time, my father had to be truthful and tell him about how I scented my mate along the borders and that I was sure my mate was from his pack.
Alpha Cain gleefully agreed to the request, even joking that I could stay in their territory as long as it would mean finding my mate.
We went to their pack land in the afternoon after classes and walked to the borders where I last scented my mate. Justine, Alpha Cain's son, the future alpha of Dark Moon Pack, together with his future officers, walked with us to the borders.
When we got there, I told him all about the details as far as I knew. That my mate might have gone to my land but left when she scented me as her mate and climbed through the barbed wires. I informed him of the time that might have happened, and explained to him that I wanted to cross the border but was warned by my beta about trespassing.
