"No, thank you, sir," I said politely. I took a few steps backward.
"I can't let you leave here. You know too much. Don't make me chase you."
There was a silence that followed as we both stared at each other.
"I'm just kidding," he said, chuckling.
That broke the ice, and I laughed. That's when he turned and opened the front door.
I stepped forward to enter before I remembered my shoes and coat. I glanced over my shoulder to see if Jonas was nearby. But he was nowhere to be seen.
'This is so unlike him.'
I entered the house and stopped short upon seeing the room full of people. They all stood staring at me with varying degrees of shock.
