Chapter 64 - Chapter 64 - The night city

Eloise happily ran down the deck t the small ramp that was connected to the port. A few servants were assigned to help people disembark and to help carry their luggage out. Some ladies were waiting for the servant to carry them out.

But since Raymond already had a servant with him, they did not have to go through with it.

Many ladies and gentlemen seem to be carrying at least ten trunks out of the ship.

"Are they getting down here?" she tugged at Raymond's coat sleeves.

Raymond gazed at the crowd and shook his head. "I don't think so. That is mister Thimbles. he is on the way to my duchy,"

"Then why so many bags?"

Before he could answer, Odette moved up from behind her and nudged her shoulders. "They are carrying their necessities. I knew we packed more."

Eloise gazed back at her eyes wide open. "For one night?!"

Raymond chuckled. "Young ladies do like to change their dresses often, but…" he leaned close. "I'll share a small secret with you, us gentlemen never notice the difference. We don't see if you are wearing blue or sage green. Everything is the same. We are practically colorblind."

"You are the one who is colorblind. I can see very well." Fred said, adjusting his glasses.

Eloise chuckled. "I have the same thoughts, mister Raymond. It is my mum who asked Odette to pack so many things. I wonder if it would be of any use at all. After all we are just going to be strolling around and nothing else."

"it's overkill." She mumbled to herself but did not say anything else regarding this matter.

After all she is from the future. Future women did not need to pack anything. They just walk out of their car keys in hand and grab food on the way,

But Victorian ladies were stipulated to change their clothes every four hours.

In the past she did not know why but later on living in this time for a while she figures it out.

It was because of the fucking toilet system. They pee standing up!!! its fucking gross but that is how they did their business. Of course, they can't pee straight and they get it all over their clothes so they change their outfits.

Eloise did not have a problem like that. even though she was taking care of her morning business in a chamber pot, she made sure to pull her skirt up and squat down in order to avoid any spills. She even washed with a jug of water afterward.

the ancient bathroom system annoyed her the most!

This is the main reason why she wanted the sewer system and the new-age toilets to be implemented. She can't pee in a chamber pot any longer!!!

Eloise sighed loudly. 'Just not the time to think about upsetting things. Let's think of our new escapade… Ohh do they have nightclubs? Strip clubs?'

Her eyes widened in excitement.

She secretly gazed at Raymond. 'Will they allow me to those places? I bet they will tell its improper for a lady to go to such places.' She pouted.

A warm hand gently placed on her puffed-up cheeks. "what's gotten you upset dear?"

'd-dear?' Eloise gazed up in shock. "I…I'm not upset."

"Your face tells a lot. Right now, you look like you just ate a sour plum. Tell me what Is in your heart. I'll help you fulfill it."

Eloise bit her lips softly. 'Should I ask him or not? Is it worth going to a club? Bu, I want to see how it is in the Victorian times…'

Raymond leaned close. "You can whisper it into my ear. No one has to know."

Eloise leaned forward so close that they actually touched. "I want to see a strip club."

Raymond just raised a brow. "What might that be?"

"You know, a place where girls drink, dance and have fun," she whispered softly.

Raymond frowned slightly. "Those kinds of places are not safe… if you want to visit one I can escort you in. but we are going to have to go incognito."

Elise held his arm. "You will take me there?"

"Sure, why not?"

"Really?" Eloise was completely ecstatic. 'He will actually take me there?! Oh my god, this is a Victorian man! he is actually so open-minded! I love it! why is he gay… so bad…'

Raymond gently touched the top of her head. "I won't ever lie to you. I will take you anywhere you want to go."

"great~" she happily clung to his arm. "Will you let me get drunk?" she whispered so that Odette won't hear her.

Raymond chuckled. "Not too much. The last time you got drunk, you almost fell off the railing."

Eloise froze like an ice statue. "What did you just say?"

"I said the last time you got drunk you almost fell off the railing. You even jumped from one balcony to another. It was completely reckless of you to do that." He said in a chiding tone.

But Eloise could not hear anything else. The night she was drunk, she was with none other than mister Raymond…

'ohh fuck! This is the guy who I was with!!! Fucking hell why didn't he tell me. I wanted to kill that guy for sure…'

She glared up at him.

Seeing her sudden expression change Raymond just confusedly looked ahead. "Fine I'll allow you to drink as much as you want. but Eloise, you must promise me something you can only drink in my proximity. You cannot drink alcohol in front of any other man." her beautiful blue eyes were peering up at him with intensity. He could feel his body heat up. "it's not safe..." he whispered gulping softly.

Eloise scoffed. 'Why didn't he tell me? I could have been relieved. I even talked about it to him,'

Thinking back to that conversation, she paled. She actually scolded him, and said that she wanted to kill him.

'Ah no wonder he didn't tell me. He must have been so scared of me. Am I that scary?' she gazed up at him.

Raymond's face had a weird pink tinge to it. Even his pale ears were red.

She reached up and touched the tip of his ear. "You're red…"

his body stiffened up. "I-am I…"

"yes…." she looked back. mister Fred was chatting with Odette in a hushed toned. Taking this chance, she leaned close. "Raymond what happened that night?"

Raymond's flush spread all the way down to his neck. "n-nothing… we just danced and sang."

"that's all? Then why are you blushing? Did I do something embarrassing" she gasped. "did I vomit on you? Oh god, I'm so sorry. I'm mortified.'

She has a low alcohol intolerance, so even a bit of drink can make her go crazy. The last time she drank with her college mates, she went crazy dancing on the barbeque tables and even twerked her ass at their faces.

They had a video of it. Thankful her friends were kind enough to delete the embarrassing memory of her.

'God!!! What did I do!!!!'

he gently griped her hand. "You didn't do anything embarrassing, Eloise. It is I... who..."

"You? What did you do?"

Raymond gazed away, clearing his throat loudly. "Ah we are in the main street. The bazaar is this way!" he said changing the subject completely.

Eloise put the matter in the back of her head and focused on the street.

The whole place was lit up with candle lights. A few colorful lanterns were hung on each house, lighting the whole street up. People were dancing and playing around.

There were stalls selling vegetables and other harvested crops.

"Why at night?" she mumbled to herself.

"Well, it's because the inhabitants of the city are awake only at night. So they sell their produce at night."

"what about the morning? No one works?"

"I'm not sure about that, but I know for sure that the city is like a dead one in the mornings." He pointed to a stall selling bags of chili. "These traders have adapted to the culture of this city."

"isn't it inconvenient at night?"

he shrugged and nodded. "It is. But the duke of this ton prefers it that way. He is a jolly man who likes to entertain himself. This city is his love child. That is also the reason why it's so safe." he pointed to the group of guards patrolling the city streets.

"Oh. He sounds like an awesome man."

Raymond's mouth twitched. "He... he is an accomplished man."

Eloise gazed up at him. 'What a weird tone of saying that... maybe Raymond hates the man. who knows? I don't care about that,'

She ran to the nearby food stall selling fried potatoes.

"don't run around," Raymond ran after her like a studious husband.

Eloise chuckled at her thought. 'yea right he is going to be my husband… but not a studious one. Just a cordial one. That is all I need in this lifetime.'
