Travis entered the ward with his angry gaze set on Malcolm. He hated the fact that the guy was surrounding his family.
But before he could say anything, Joanna beat him up to it.
"So where did you go to, Travis?! The hospital sent someone to ask for their fees! If Director Baker wasn't here, if he hadn't helped us settle the debt, then the would really have kicked us out of the hospital!" Joanna was livid at the sight of Travis.
Her gaze held disappointment.
He just left without care in the name of looking for money to borrow as if that's possible. Who does he have? He's just useless and she regretted it! What the hell blindfolded her that made her so infatuated with Travis despite his stability in the financial world.
"Mom, please don't yell at daddy. I know he's stressed our too so please don't yell." Maya pleaded with a pouty expression. She could tell her parents were about to start another squabble…rather her mom, since she's the only one finding faults in her dad when she considers her dad perfect.
Travis had been a little ticked but hearing his daughter defend him, the anger in his eyes dissolved.
He walked closer to her, squatted, then he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before patting her fondly on the head with a smile on his face. "Hey princess, really glad to see you're awake. And you shouldn't be worried about me. I'm not stressed at all. Never. I'll find a compatible bone marrow for you and then my adorable daughter will be wholly fine and will be able to leave this hospital."
A big smile appeared on Maya's face. "I know you can do that, dad. You never fail on your promises. I'm so happy that I'll get out of here soon. I miss home."
Travis smiled back at her. "Yeah."
Maya looked at her mom. "You see, mom. You shouldn't always fight with dad. I always told you dad could do it and I know he will. I believe in him!"
Seeing her daughter's gaze, Joanna couldn't help but break into a smile. Enough that could make her daughter relax.
But the look she threw at Travis was filled with animosity. How dare he make such a promise when he's incapable of even paying their daughter's bills. Unbelievable!
Such a terrible father he is!
Maya would soon see the excuses he would give to her when he couldn't keep up with his promises.
Travis is the last person that they should place their hopes on. It will be like hanging on a chandelier for dear life.
Then Malcolm decided to chime in, "it's normal for a father to not want to disappoint his child. Not wanting to disappoint Maya is understandable but lifting hopes, especially to a kid is a bad thing. Especially seeing how impossible it is. I'm not sure you were able to find money to borrow but do not worry because I've paid the medical bills. You don't have to thank me or anything. After all, she did call me uncle." He made it known with an air of arrogance, not bothering to hide any of the contempt in his eyes.
At that, Travis straightened himself. A dangerous gleam appeared in his eyes when he looked at Malcolm. The guy won't stop.
Why the hell is he butting his head into his family?
He will not let him get what he wants. He won't give him the chance to ruin his family. No way!
And seeing the cold glare Travis had on Malcolm, Joanna frowned and reproached him. "Don't do that, Travis. We should be thanking Director Baker for helping us! You should be grateful but why are you so apathetic and unappreciative?! If he hadn't paid that five hundred thousand dollars, then Maya wouldn't be here! We would have been chased out of the hospital! Apologize to him right now!" She ordered.
Travis looked at her and scoffed. "Why should I apologize? I never begged him for any money. He should have just minded his business…"
"Travis…"
"Isn't it five hundred thousand? Well, I have it." Travis made it known.
Malcolm laughed, the mockery in his eyes almost overflowing. "You have five hundred thousand? You, a security guard? Who would be so blind to lend you five hundred thousand dollars?!
Joanna's face was icy-cold and the gaze she leveled at Travis grew increasingly full of disgust.
Look at the kind of insult he's bestowing on himself. So embarrassing!
How long is she gonna keep getting affected by his useless life? Every arrow shot at him is shot at her too and she hated it.
Faced with Malcolm's barbs, Travis sneered and simply opened the black briefcase he held. Stacks of dollars appeared before Malcolm's eyes.
"This is exactly five hundred thousand dollars, Mr. Baker. Take it and get lost!" Travis's voice was icy 'cause naturally he held no smiles for this man. His intention on his wife was clear as day and he can't act blind toward it, especially when he has the money to take care of his daughter.
Yes! He has the money!
He can give his daughter everything she wants.
