Chapter 1 - 1- Starting Years : A Selfish Choice

A note for the Readers:

Hello! This is a story I had been preparing for a bit of a time, with research and fact checking certain details, I finally found the confidence to write it. I am what you would categorize as a new writer, although I have written my other discontinued works, only now I was actually determined to see it though. If there are any typos please do forgive me, some say I am a bad explainer so I would appreciate your opinion. And lastly, I hope you enjoy reading this as I have writing it.

From the Author,

Some people want freedom, what I want- what I WISH is direction and purpose.

Summer break was spent in her room, reading web novels and stories about distant lands. Seeing college as something she wouldn't even want to try.

Mia rolled in her bed, anticipation bubbling in her as she read and re-read by how fast she was reading. Yet on the back of her mind a distant numbness dampen her joy as she read that latest chapter.

She knows her family isn't exactly well off, her family is just having enough to get by.

Knowing that when she gets into a college she would feel a constant and invisible pressure to not mess up so she wouldn't waste the money they were spending for her to go to school.

It was in the middle of reading her favorite web novel A Nouveau Riche's Daughter, I Want To Find A Hunk, a story full of magic, nobles and adventure. It was in the middle of her reading that a thought crossed her mind: I want to die.

I don't want to go to college.

I don't want to pick a course just because Literature is my strongest strength.

I don't want to go to college, not knowing what I even want to pursue.

I don't want to be stuck in a job then cry about it of how I hated it.

I've always got good grades, good grades that raises expectations.

At the end of the chapter she reached where the latest update ended, leaving her in a cliffhanger.

Where the whole country of Aerilan had a wide spread epidemic of a disease that sucks the strength and make them act like they were drunk.

The main character, Gianna Veriktil the prince's fiance, goes to find the cure for the queen that had caught the sickness.

Gianna was described as dainty and gentle, with red curls that reached to her waist, and has a quite, as said by the prince once as 'quite bountiful' body. Gianna was the daughter of a nouveau riche, her father one of the few who is a mana crystal harvester.

Gianna was also blessed with the ability of being able to harvest mana crystals and a talent of healing and medicine.

In her travels she finds Kaz Dishil, a hunk of a man with tan skin, muscular body, and dark blue hair. Discovering that he was a captain of a ship that travels around the world to do trades.

When she gets back home and delivers a medicine that had said could cure the queen. They discovered that it had worked, but only partially, and so she decided to go back and find an even effective medicine and also establish a trade agreement so her country could get access to make the medicine.

The prince of Aerilan, Cohen Laurier Ezekriza. A golden haired guy with summer sky eyes, a text book picture perfect prince.

But when Gianna came home Cohen showed that he knew her secret lover, Kaz, and showed his obsessive side to her.

Gianna immediately tried to cancel their engagement, much to the noble society and Prince Cohen's suprise and fury.

Cohen had now employed men to kill Kaz and kidnap Gianna, but the most they could do was kill Kaz's right hand Dist, who had protected Gianna from a flying dagger. They only got to escape by a breath away, grieving the death of their friend. But he had not died without giving clues and evidence of Cohen's sudden corruption, telling Gianna that she must show this to the queen and persuade to have Cohen executed.

Cohen watches by the harbor while they set off to sea.

The latest chapter ends there in a cliffhanger, making Mia groan as she gets back to her own reality.

She goes to the comment section, seeing that many had the same anticipation as she is feeling. Some nitpicking at the story and looking at the mentality of the characters.

FoxTrox69: Omg, I have goosebumps when Cohen showed how creepy he gets 😱😨

I knew there was something about him at chapter 3

Babydog: Argggg 😫 I can't wait for the next update

ILikeCorn: God, I feel so sorry for Cohen. Having to manage an entire kingdom while he worries of his sick mother, then discovers that his fiance had been cheating on him. I'd like to say that what he did it was wrong, killing Dist was wrong, but his anger was justified. Cohen trusted Gianna with his heart, not as the prince of Aerilan but as Cohen who loves her, then just throws it out of the window the moment she sees a hot guy is just 🤮🤮🤮

MommyDom: Noooooo 😭😭 Dist my baby 😭 F*ck you Cohen 🤬😡😡🤬

FakeCat007: When's the next update?

PrincessTrains: I wonder where Cohen's dad is. Like is he gone? Did he ran away? In chapter 12 Gianna sees Cohen's skin turn a shade darker, and how the author worded it made me think that that wasn't just a trick of the light and how Cohen's scent changed. The queen obvi is powerful but it doesn't look like she has those kinds of powers based by how it wasn't mentioned when Cohen told Gianna of some tales of when the queen was a general in her youth, when the country was very much in war. So those powers must be from his father, sooooo... I wonder if the father will reveal as a big character later on the story

The comments were a mix of reaction,

Mia's brows rain in surprise to see someone defended Cohen. Though there was something valid in it as Mia herself sees no merit in cheating.

Mia reached the front door, trying to keep her footsteps light, when her mother called out to her.

"I'm going to the mall" Mia said barely managing her voice normally, not turning to her mother.

"Take an umbrella, It looks like it'll rain"

"Mhhm" Mia's hands clammy as she opens the door.

Breathing out a sigh as the guilt pangs at her as her feet carries her to the bustle in the mall.

The sky hungs gray with promises of rain, a distant rumble cuts through the voices in the mall.

Eyes glued to her phone whilst her fingers fiddled with her hair as she walks to the stairs.

Mia only looked up when a group of high schoolers were in her way. Walking away as their loud laughter momentarily covered the noise of the mall. Quickening her steps as her mood further plummeting and her meek future reassuring.

With a little out of breath did she reached the rooftop where a chain fence lines to wall her.

Mia almost jumps to the fence, climbing up with a few slips and an uneven breath. Shakily did she sat on the edge, gripping the fence, backing up so her entire back was against it, digging the coldness of the metal against where her skin was exposed.

Mia tried to calm her racing heart and to steady her breath, but the absence of ground on her feet prevents her so. The wind blows at her, making her hair in the way of the view.

Gripping her phone in front of her she re-reads the latest chapter, slowly this time until when she finishes her heart was now steady.

Switching to a different tab she looks at the website of the college she had just applied to, staring at it her resolved had solidified.

She does not want to go to college, she does not want a job that she will cry of hating it.

Mia knows this reason is not enough of justification, she knows she is being selfish, she knows that she is just assuming the worst.

But... From what she sees she would rather die than accept that future.

Even if she passed with flying colors, even if she finishes college and gets her degree, then what now? Work in a job I have not an speck of passion in even just choosing it?

This life full of monotone, Mia can't stand this suffocating freedom, when her heart wants direction, when her life needs a purpose.

"This is what I decide for my future"

The last thing Mia saw was the coming rain drops that later fell on her corpse.

And so the life of Mia Santos ends, the curtains falls with blood red.

Self-loathing and fantasies clouds the sight of a dreamer, too caugh up in her own dream she forgets her own reality.

A prayer mumbled in her last moments to grant her a direction in life.

A wish for a world full of magic and wonder.
