As Cao Guang came back he noticed that his team was missing two mages.
"Luo Heng what happened?"
" The normal beasts were fine but the Spectres overran us"
"Did the captain just kill a Standard Commander in three moves!"
" It's pretty impressive that he can train a Contract beast that well huh he'd be pretty useless without it"
The Light Formation mages casted an extended version of Brilliant Light after they got past the army of zombies with cover from soldiers and Hunters.
Their spells revealed the cause of death of many mages, the Spectres of Ancient capital, they were a difficult species to kill and had a few leaders among them as well, like Phantom Tyrant Monarch and Netherworld Ghost Queen. Some countries referred to them as Phantoms and not spectres, but they were essentially the same.
After the Light Formation got to work, Cao Guang's squad ended up as defensive cover. No matter what they could do against other monsters, they were a bit useless against Spectres. Cao Guang's only moves against them were Light and Space spells.
What he could achieve with them were limited.
Brilliant Light Sacred Prayer
Cao Guang cast him spell in time to save a Formation mage from being ambushed. He and Flame Belle went on to build defensive walls with either Telekinesis or Light Protection.
The squad's work was mostly done and they just needed to escort these Formation mages back.
----
A rumble took the mages around Ancient Capital by suprise as a bony three headed monster capable of flight came out of the ground as if it could swim in Earth.
Han Ji was overlooking the battlefield from the top of West Wall and tracking every Ruler that had appeared. There were couple of Red Skeleton Monarchs and a Phantom Tyrant Monarch, all being dealt with teams of Super mages.
Han Ji was startled when noticed the presence of a Great Monarch that came undetected, any such beasts would make some form ripples before they woke up from their sleep in Ancient Capital.
" Tell Lu Han to move out with me"
Lu Han was the leader of Imperial Mages in Ancient Capital, he would be strong enough to face such beasts alone in the future. But for now he needed a hand from Han Ji.
"Lu Han, that is the Nether Bone Ruler, the strongest skeleton in the Undead army, one of the few that can fly, we need to deal with it now "
A/n : Ruler and Monarch are the same rank.
Han Ji and Lu Han took off from the ground with Wind Wings, at the height required to fight the Nether Bone Ruler, Han Ji observed a Black goo on the ground that would torment him for life.
The Dark Abyss
Technically it wasn't goo or anything like, it was a point where the concentration of undead was said to a million in a kilometre or something. It was a furnace where both living and Undead suffered and now it had appeared so close to Ancient Capital, and none of preventive mechanisms seemed to have picked it up.
Even the Nether Bone Ruler seemed to avoid it even though it was an Undead as well.
The Dark Abyss trickled past the three of them as it made another jump near the Light Formation mages.
The entire one hundred light mages in the formation and thirty two mages that escorted them fell into the Dark Abyss as a terrifying force of Chaos magic sucked them in.
Regardless of what spell they used or what element, all were sucked in without exception.
Cao Guang did what he could and pulled Flame Belle back into his Contract space before she turned into Undead or worse.
Cao Guang suddenly remembered about the features of the Dark Abyss as he looked to where Luo Heng was and tried to make his way there. It was hard to move in the air even with a pair of magic wings.
By the time Cao Guang even got close the wailing Wall had appeared.
It was the mouth of Dark Abyss, a wall of faces, humans, undead, beasts all that had been sucked into the Dark Abyss had turned into a face on the wall, never dying or attaining peace. These pour souls wailed for eternity as torture and pain got worse.
None had even survived to speak the tale.
Cao Guang closed his eyes as his friend turned into a face on the wall with hundred or so others.
A tear trickled down his face.
