Cao Guang and Luo Heng waited around patiently till the Solstice night that year. They spent their time cultivating and Cao Guang let Luo Heng borrow his magic accelerator to practice, he could control the Lightning Galaxy well enough now.
Speaking of which, Cao Guang wasn't as overpowered as he thought he was, it was only Little Flame Belle that was strong. Ai Jiangtu had two elements at the Advanced level and could use both advanced spells by the time training tour began.
The night of solstice would atleast be 14 hours long in Ancient Capital where the presence of death was extremely strong. The entire city had brace themselves for the Undead that would be waking up.
That night the military would not allow Hunters to go out as they wished, even they had to follow military orders if they wanted go out of the Wall. Cao Guang and Luo Heng registered themselves as Hunters for the event. They fell into the upper mid category amongst them.
It was unlikely that Super level Hunting squads would come to Ancient Capital for this, they had expeditions or bigger wars to fight around the globe. Besides the frenzy at Ancient Capital only lasted for a single night.
For most of them, it wasn't enough to be here.
A black mist spread into the night sky as fears were exacerbated and an eerie pair of eyes could be seen as groups of spectres came out following the eyes.
"What's that"
" So many spectres, where are the Light mages?"
" That's the Phantom Tyrant Monarch"
Cao Guang saw General Lu come before the ready soldiers and Hunters.
"Everyone, the Imperial Mages and us Super Mages of the army will be responsible for dealing with the Rulers. None of them shall step in to Ancient Capital as long as we breath" he paused himself before continuing.
" But I need your help, as we leave to fight the Rulers, we need you take out anything that approaches the walls and isn't human. I also need teams to help us in dealing with the Ruler's Minions. I ask this of you for Ancient Capital"
General Lu looked rather experienced with the speech, Cao Guang also noticed other leaders giving the same speech on other sections of the wall. But they were right, the Hunters and soldiers had a part to play as well.
" Yes general, we have our roles as well"
" As long as I don't have to go outside the wall, I am only a basic mage"
The crowd soon agreed with the General and split themselves according to the data released by the military. When joining up they had to register their names and the strength and identity of their Primary elements. The would then allocate them into squads.
Cao Guang and Luo Heng was in the same squad as they were both young and only first tier Advanced mages.
Cao Guang didn't stand on ceremony and put on the badge every Advanced mage should have and went to meet the squad he was supposed to be leading.
On the way he thought about how to convince these people that he was actually strong when he still looked so young. As a soldier he had gotten that look far more than he thought he would.
Cao Guang looked at the squad he was given, there was thirty intermediate mages of different capabilities there.
" Everyone I am Cao Guang and this person here is the vice captain, Luo Heng. We are both Advanced mages and I am sure you doubt how strong we are."
Cao Guang made a Star Pattern precisely to make it known to these guys about his contract pet. The Flame Belle came out in all of her glory and the aura of a Great Commander spread out instantly.
" So it's like that, you are an esteemed Summoner, makes sense why you are the captain".
The murmurs and disatisfaction of having a young captain went away. Morale was an important thing and no army could function well without it. He'd be remiss if he didn't address the problem before they set out.
He just used the fastest way and showed Flame Belle off to these guys. He wasn't happy about that, he had presented thirty unknown people with his strongest trump card. But the other cards weren't enough to convince them in such a short while.
Strength was indeed the greatest divide in this world. If he was a stronger mage, then he probably would not have to display his cards to people to convince them.
