After healing Fenrir, Cao Guang decided to move on to the Main Campus. With the deal he made with Dean Xiao, he had gained some resources, a three day pass for the three step tower and a ticket to the main Campus without an examination.
He wanted more resources and a longer saty in the three step tower. In fact he could have directly joined the main Campus if not for the fact they couldn't take part in the academic exchange with Imperial College.
Dean Xiao had a pretty good team for the exchange and added Cao Guang in as the final nail in the coffin for Imperial College. It was also the first huge victory for the Pearl Institute since he had become the Dean.
Cao Guang decided to join the Lightning institute as it was the second element he wanted to develop. The most students knew his elements to be Space and Lightning, the exchange team knew it as Space, Lightning, Summoning and Fire.
Cao Guang went to the last lecture for the lightning element for January so that he could register for the challenge system.
There were three hundred students in the lightning institute as a whole and there were two hundred and twenty one in the main Campus now.
Cao Guang went to the lecture hall and found a seat in a corner beside a young woman who was talking loudly to her friend.
"Did you hear Gu Yan wants to challenge Nanrong Xu"
"Excuse me, but who are these two, oh I just joined the lightning institute, I'm Cao Guang"
"I see you are that Cao Guang, teacher Lin was not unhappy when you joined. That was really unusual you see, most teachers hate it when students join halfway through the year and you joined with just a few months remaining.
I am Zhou Zhu, I just heard about it as well. Gu Yan is the current number two and Nanrong Xu is naturally the number one ranked among the students. It seems Gu Yan wants to challenge him next week. Hey which institute did you join from, I don't remember seeing you in the lightning institute."
" Space"
" Space institute! Isn't that really rare in the Intermediate level, wait where you the top ranked in the outer institute Cao Guang, that Cao Guang who traumatized Imperial College students and Pearl Institute students during the exchange event.
I heard you beat the every other student of Pearl Institute alone. How did you manage that. Where are you from... How did you train yourself.... Do you have a girlfriend yet? ....
I heard that your Innate talent was ranked seventh in the country..."
Chatterbox Zhou went on for another five minutes of questioning with Cao Guang by the time teacher Lin appeared and the classroom went quite. He was obviously some one who held the students respect and resented tardiness.
Cao Guang braced himself for the inevitable showdown with this guy. He might not be like Mo Fan and Wei Rong but all teachers hated late joiners. Cao Guang suddenly felt he was too old. In his two lives he had lived for thirty five years combined.
He had mellowed out and with army discipline he had been a strict and straight forward person. He didn't think he had Mo Fan's sass in him. He just wanted to diffuse the situation.
"Before we begin, submit your challenges for next week now start from the back, state you name and challenge"
Not all teachers made students make their challenge out public like this but Lin Mu liked to do exactly this as a test of his students psychological resilience. In his opinion Lightning was brief, brilliant and indomitable.
Cao Guang had heard of teacher Lin's preference and therefore attended this lecture for the whole point of issuing his challenge.
Cao Guang stood and said in a loud sound
" Cao Guang, I challenge rank twenty" as silence prevailed in the classroom.
Students usually made challenges using their opponents names. Cao Guang didn't know the name of rank twenty, he just wanted to challenge them for another weeks worth of time in the three step tower.
He could have challenged the number four or five and still won, but he just wanted the cultivation time and decided to take everything in its stride. The rank twenty, Luo Meirong on the other hand took as an insult, just like every other student in the classroom. It made no sense to Cao Guang, but Lin Mu was someone who valued cohesion and teamwork, he had forged this class full of talented commoners and silver spooned young mages into his mold.
