Chereads / A night with my billionaire Boss / Chapter 16 - chapter 16

Chapter 16 - chapter 16

Awkward Moments

It was a message.

A message from someone she least expected.

That night was definitely not her night.

Her eyes widened as they stared deep into her phone. It felt like she was in her own world of shock. In fact, she looked like she had just seen a ghost.

"This can't be real!" She exclaimed. Her eyes were still widened and glued to her phone screen.

She still wasn't convinced that what she was staring at, was the most unexpected text that reflected on her phone screen.

"IT'S REAL!" She almost screamed. But she decided against it almost immediately.

After much contemplation, she proceeded to tap on the text.

It read. "Hi, why are you still awake, Miss Anderson?"

Her boss was texting her? Xander, the one who barely smiled or spoke to her was texting her right now? She was in so much disbelief.

She never knew a day like this where she would be on edge because her boss texted her, would come.

For some reason, she found it weird that he had called her by her surname, during a text. He was too professional and forward in person and during a text.

Although, she was really hoping to see a different Xander, during the text.

Who was she kidding? She was one hundred percent sure he did not mean to text her.

In her little mind, she already concluded that he never meant to text her. Still, she went ahead to text him back . It'd be rude not to text back.

"Good evening Mr Wellington, I hope you're good?" She typed and almost hit the send button, but decided against it almost immediately. She cleared it up and began typing again.

"Good evening boss, I trust you're good?" Ugh! She half screamed. How could she be so dumb! She muttered to herself.

She just wanted to text back, so she wouldn't appear rude to her boss. She began typing again.

"Good evening Mr Wellington, I'm up doing some paper work. I just took a break to screw through some reels." She smiled proudly. This was the deal breaker. She knew Xander, would be so proud of her if he read the message.

She knew it was her cue to go to bed, as it was already getting late and she was avoiding any more query from her boss.

Before she went to bed, she hit the follow back button and switched off her phone.

The annoying sound of her alarm clock, blared through the hours.

She groaned loudly when she realized it's morning arrest. It's been only an hour she closed her eyes and it was morning already?

She swore the day hated her, else it wouldn't come so quickly.

She began getting ready for work. She picked out a black fitted gown and a jacket. Her black stiletto heel was placed in a corner already.

She proceeded to the bathroom to brush her teeth, and bounced to the kitchen to fix herself breakfast.

After much contemplation, she decided to make pancakes and a cup of hot, steamy, black coffee.

Kayla, knew how hard her day would go if she skipped taking coffee.

She also made up her mind to get another cup of coffee on her way to work.

Without much hesitation, she began cooking. When she finished, she ate her pancakes and downed her coffee till the very last drop.

7:10am

She was already in the bathroom bathing. She finished, applied deodorants, body lotion and proceeded to wear her clothes. She applied little makeup on her face, to hide the eye bags she was beginning to have.

When she was satisfied, she picked up her hand bag and left the house.

As usual, her driver was early. He was standing outside waiting for her.

"Good morning, Thomas." She greeted with a smile plastered on her face.

"Good morning Kayla. You look beautiful as always." He complimented with a very friendly smile.

"Aw. Thank you. You don't look bad either." Kayla grinned. They both chuckle as  Thomas thanked her. "You shouldn't have to wait outside till I'm done. Just knock on the door to let me know." Kayla complained almost bitterly.

Mr Thomas, was very fond of keeping it very professional. Despite how much Kayla had constantly begged him to always come into her house, he refuses.

He was always keeping it professional like his employer had instructed him to.

"I'm not complaining, it's my job."

Kayla sighed in defeat. She knew she could not convince him anymore. So, she swore never to bring up the conversation again,

They both got into the car, and Thomas, drove off.

Although the drive, Kayla avoided logging into her instagram. She was scared to, because she knew Xander might have replied. She did not want to see his text and still face him at work.

For some reason, she wished she never replied. She would have acted like none of it happened last night.

But not only did she reply him, she followed him back.

Kayla almost screamed in frustration. I'm her mind, she already concluded that her day would not go so well.

She managed to fight the urge to stop thinking about Xander, till she got to the company.

It was so hard not to think of him, as everything reeked of him. From his car down to his perfume.

His perfume lingered in the air as she walked to her office. She was certain he had just arrived.

"Lord, help me." She muttered as she bid Thomas goodbye. Thomas waved back and got back into the car.

She had barely gotten to her office door when a very deep, familiar voice stopped her.

"You're a minute late, Miss Anderson."

She looked down at her watch.

Shit!! She muttered. How did she come late when she was up early.

"Turn around." He ordered. And when she delayed, he ordered her again. "Now!"

Kayla turned slowly to meet eye to eye with Xander. She almost lost her breath when she saw him standing there.... Smiling.

Wait?!

Smiling? At her?

She wondered why.

"We have a lot to do. You'd need coffee to get some strength. A cup of coffee is already at her desk with some paperwork." He did not wait for her reply before he brushed past her.

All the things Xander, had said to Kayla, none went in her head properly. The only one that repeated continuously in her head was the coffee he talked about.

Xander bought her coffee?

Hell no!
