Chapter 251 - Bad spots

He lifted a huge container and placed it on the conveyor belt. A parrot-like bird monster tilted its head and curiously observed Locke, who was busy outside the cage.

"Locke! It's time for lunch! "Harris' voice came from the other side of the mountain-like cage container.

"Alright, got it!" Locke yelled back and walked to the front of the cage that held the parrot. Before the beast could react, Locke had already plucked two out of the three pink tassels on its head.

"Coo, coo!" The major monster that had lost two tassels looked like it had suffered a heavy blow. It flapped its wings and hid away from Locke in the cage.

"Two Crimson Feathers." Locke took out a small notebook from his spatial ring and secretly wrote it down. He then casually put the Crimson Feathers into a wooden box.

The work in the transfer zone was dirty and tiring for others because they had to face countless major monsters and foreign creatures all day long. But for Locke, it was simply a paradise for him to fish for money.

After tidying up a little, Locke changed into a clean set of clothes and went out to find Harris to have lunch with him.

Not to mention the others, even Harris and Jasmine could see his little tricks. Locke wasn't a stingy person. He wouldn't mistreat his' own people 'if he got a share of the profits. It could be considered as shutting their mouths.

It wasn't uncommon for the staff in the transfer zone to take advantage of their position. There were very few who were completely clean. Locke could only say that he had done more than anyone else.

After all, only a high-rank Paladin like him would dare to extract the organs of major monsters while they were awake.

The red parrot just now had the strength of a mid-rank major monster. Even if it had been branded, it wasn't something that casters could act rashly. They had to cast all sorts of weakening spells before they dared to attack it.

"Where are we going to eat?" Locke put his arm on Harris' shoulder and smiled. They had become familiar with each other over the past few days. Harris, who was a mid-rank Lehrling, was obedient to Locke.

"Let's go to the second floor of the Sanctum Academy," Harris suggested.

"Alright!" Locke seemed to have thought of the secret warthog leg on the second floor of the academy and licked his lips.

The Sanctum treated its casters so well that even Locke, a knight, was envious of them.

Not only did he provide free accommodation, but he also provided ingredients below mid-level major monsters for every meal. Most importantly, there was no limit. It was perfect for a big eater like him.

Now that he'd become Magister Ashar's experimental assistant, he was now qualified to enter the Sanctum at will. The academy's restrictions on him had also been lifted.

He could now change into a caster's robe and pretend to be a fake student.

Work in the transport zone was mainly busy in the morning because the new slaves would be delivered in the wee hours of the morning. Most of the work in the afternoon was registration work, so he didn't go. Harris and Jasmine were more than enough.

"I have to go to Lady Ashar's place in the afternoon. I'll leave the transport zone to you," said Locke as he wiped his mouth with a napkin.

"Don't worry, go." Harris nodded. Both he and Jasmine knew that Locke was now working as an assistant to a Magister.

"By the way, what's the name of the Magister?" asked Harris curiously. Locke hadn't told them before.

"She's a female caster called Ashar," replied Locke.

"Who?!" Harris choked on the caviar in his throat. "Cough, cough. Say that again?"

"What's wrong, Lady Ashar?" asked Locke.

Harris didn't answer him and gave him a pitiful look.

"Good luck to you," Harris blurted out without any rhyme or reason.

"What's going on?" asked Locke as he grabbed Harris's collar. Was Lady Ashar famous among the Lehrlings?

"I heard that Lady Ashar hasn't taken on any apprentices yet. She only takes in experimental assistants," said Harris. Harris said, "As for those apprentice-level lab assistants, very few of them can last more than two months."

"Why? Is Lady Ashar too strict? "asked Locke.

"No, because they can't stand being transformed into freaks," replied Harris.

"There was an unlucky fellow who had both his legs cut off by Lady Ashar and transplanted the roots of an ancient tree. He died within half a month." Harris seemed to have lost his appetite when he recalled the tragic scene. He put down the caviar spoon in his hand.

Locke suddenly felt his scalp go numb. He remembered what Ashar had said to him at the beginning of their meeting. "Experimental materials?" Locke shuddered.

"Doesn't the Sanctum care?" It was one thing for Magisters to exploit Lehrlings, but the Sanctum wouldn't stand idly by if human lives were involved.

"Of course, why not? I heard that Lady Ashar was fined a large amount of energy crystals after that incident," said Harris.

The life of a Magic Apprentice was actually equal to a mineral like an energy crystal. It had to be said that it was very ironic in the real world.

"Lady Ashar is one of the strongest level-one casters. It's not wrong for her to have some privileges." Harris was quite open-minded. He'd been studying in the Sanctum for almost ten years and had seen all sorts of things.

Even Angelina didn't expect the job she was introducing to Locke to be so dangerous. She'd only agreed to the task because she thought that Ashar was her mentor's sister.

After lunch, Locke didn't stay for long. He took his things and went to the 82nd floor of the Sanctum. Since he already knew that Ashar was such a notorious person, he didn't dare to be late.

Locke had a key to Lady Asha's room. It was given to him by Lady Asha when he left that night, but that was all. Locke's activities were limited to the living room. Whether it was the alchemy laboratory, the meditation room, or the elemental pool, he was not allowed to enter any of them.

As soon as Locke entered the room, Ashar, who was meditating, sensed his presence.

"You're early. Did you bring the things?" Ashar walked out of the meditation room, still dressed in a black robe.

"Yes!" Locke hurriedly bent down and took out most of the materials from his spatial ring. Some of them were requested by Ashar, while others were his personal stash.

Between life and money, Locke chose life. He could still earn money if he lost it, but he'd lose everything if he lost his life.
