Chapter 210 - Broken sword

"Do you have more of these?" Grandmaster Rhys asked eagerly. He could tell that Locke had more than this.

"I do, but I'm not planning to auction them," said Locke.

The old man glanced at Billie, who was sitting quietly next to Locke. He couldn't see anything in her eyes, so he gave up.

Their auction looked luxurious, but in reality, it could only be considered a small event among the real auctions of the Empire. The nobles who came were rarely earls, let alone marquises and other great nobles.

In the past, treasures like blood essence were the main focus of the auction, so the old man didn't want to give it up the moment he laid his eyes on it.

"The starting bid is five thousand gold moores. What do you think, Herr?" Grandmaster Rhys gave Locke a very reasonable price.

This was an auction, not a shop, so there wasn't a strict price line for each item. As for the final price, it depended on various factors.

Billie's family and the other families held the auction twice a year. The highest bid last time was thirty thousand moores, and it was said to be an antique scroll from a marquis' family in the empire.

Locke's ten grams of blood essence would normally fetch around five thousand gold moores on the black market, but due to demand, it was actually more expensive. The old man wasn't trying to scam Locke.

"Alright." Locke handed the box of blood essence to the attendant next to him.

There was still an hour before the auction started. After walking around the venue for a while, the two returned to their seats.

A flyer from the auction passed through the hands of the maidservants and was passed to Locke.

"Is there anything good?" Locke didn't look at the leaflet, but looked at Billie.

"There are two sets of armour that suit you, and some potions that are useful for you …" Billie listed all the items that Locke could use, and most of them were priced within five thousand gold coins.

Locke was only interested in one of the chainmail armors. He suddenly regretted auctioning off his blood essence.

Among the armour types, leather armour was the most suitable for Locke as it could bring out his Eagle impetus to the fullest. However, perhaps because he'd grown up in the army, he was used to wearing iron armour. Leather armour was soft and soft, so he only used it as inner armour.

Heavy armour wasn't comfortable to wear, so after much consideration, only half-body armour and chainmail met his standards.

If he still wanted to carry out the trial mission, he had to get himself a useful set of armour. He cherished his life very much.

Not long after, the auction officially began.

Since most of the guests were nobles and wealthy merchants, the first item up for auction was an extraordinary one. The starting bid was 800 gold moores, and it was sold for 1200 gold moores. It was a good start to the day.

Next was a necklace worn by a noblewoman, and a cane used by Marx, the great philosopher of the Empire hundreds of years ago.

This was an auction for nobles, so most of the items on sale were of interest to them. Locke really couldn't understand why the noblewomen would fight over a necklace that had been worn by another woman.

After waiting for a long time, an auction item that he could use finally appeared.

"A broken sword that was discarded by a Ritter. It's a very collectible item for many nobles!" The emcee on the stage excitedly commented on the item that had just been sent up for auction.

However, the atmosphere wasn't that great. From an aesthetic point of view, the broken sword didn't have the slightest bit of beauty. The blade was entirely black, which didn't meet the aesthetic standards of the nobles. The same went for the chipped part of the broken sword. It seemed to have been bitten off by some unknown creature.

Why would these nobles buy such a broken sword? The noblewomen were even less interested. They were enthusiastically comparing the jewels they'd just bid for or discussing the items that were about to be auctioned.

However, the atmosphere didn't cool down. Someone still raised his hand to bid.

"200 gold moores!"

"300 gold moores!"

"350 gold moores!"

...

Indeed, compared to the crafts and jewellery that had been fiercely contested earlier, the price and purchasing power of the broken sword were much lower.

"500 gold moores!" Locke suddenly raised his hand and ended the 'small fight'.

"What do you need that broken sword for?" asked Billie curiously. She was the one who provided Locke with his current longsword. Could it be that there was something wrong with the one he was using?

"I'm just curious, so I wanted to study it," said Locke. He didn't have much contact with Ritter powerhouses, so he might be able to make some new discoveries if he could study a weapon that was once used by one of them.

The auction continued. Apart from antiques and crafts, there were also some rare treasures that were useful to casters and knights that were rarely seen on the market.

The competition for these items wasn't any less intense than before. In fact, there were even a few small climaxes.

Locke looked at the armour regretfully. It had been won by someone else for 5000 gold moores. He was only left with 4500 gold moores, which was barely enough.

"If you're talking about armour, I have a good one with me!" said Billie. She'd said the same thing when she gave Locke the longsword.

"No, thank you for your kind offer." Locke quickly declined. He didn't want to owe Billie too much.

After that, Locke's blood essence was finally brought to the auction stage.

"This precious blood essence comes from the heart of a high-rank major monster. The starting bid is 5000 gold moores. Let's begin!" The emcee's introduction was concise this time. He slammed the gavel and announced the start of the auction.

Blood essence was a sudden addition to the auction today. Nobles like Billie, who already knew about the auction beforehand, were obviously surprised by the appearance of blood essence.

But after the initial shock, they started bidding like crazy.

Whether or not a noble family could have a long history, apart from having a wise family head and having a wide range of branches, they also needed enough power to maintain the family from declining.

Blood essence that could enhance a mid-rank Ritter's strength could no longer be measured by money.

"5100 gold moores!"

"5300 gold moores!"

"6000 gold moores!"

"6700 gold moores!"

... The price continued to rise.
