Locke was alarmed. He rolled forward agilely and stabbed the sword in his right hand. Clang! The sound of metal clashing could be heard. Locke activated impetus in his right hand, but he couldn't shake the sword out of the person's hand. Locke's attack failed, so he took the opportunity to ram into the person. Locke, who was 1.7 meters tall, was not bad in the camp. The person let out a cry of surprise. It was a woman.
Locke took the opportunity to grab the attacker's neck with his right hand. It was a warm and smooth neck, but Locke didn't show mercy. There was no such thing as being lenient on the battlefield. Just as Locke was about to see what the attacker looked like, there was a noise in front of him. A black figure pounced on him. Locke's left hand moved forward, and he subconsciously squeezed as if he had grabbed something soft. "Ah!!!" A scream pierced through the entire courtyard.
The moonlight outside shone into the room, and Locke gradually adapted to the darkness. The first thing he saw were two beautiful faces, one young and one mature. And the softness that his left hand was grabbing was the mature mistress's. There were tears in her eyes, and she bit her lips as if she was enduring great pain. Of course, Locke subconsciously grabbed with all his strength. After a long time, when the tears in the woman's eyes increased and her lips turned purple, Locke finally reacted and let go of his left hand. The woman fell to the ground.
He wasn't worried that the woman would get up and attack again. No one would be able to withstand such a grab, and he realized that she was just an ordinary woman. However, he didn't dare to let his guard down for the one in his right hand. She was definitely not an ordinary woman to be able to block his impetus move. However, her eyes were rolling back and she was about to suffocate after being held by Locke for so long.
"Who are you people?" Locke pinched her with his right hand and asked the woman who had fallen to the ground. Judging from their attire, the woman in his hand was wearing a maid's uniform with a blue hairband on her head, while the woman on the ground was wearing a black dress. Although the black dress looked dirty and messy at the moment, the exquisite and smooth appearance of the details showed that it was definitely worth a lot. It seemed that the woman on the ground was the one in charge.
"Cough cough... let go of Laffey! You're going to strangle her to death! " The woman on the ground shouted and rushed up to grab Locke again, pulling him around without a care in the world. She had already lost a housekeeper who was like a family member to her. She did not want to lose another family member.
Locke looked at the woman helplessly. He had never seen such an unreasonable woman before. If the women he had come into contact with weren't waitresses in Bideslane's taverns, they would've been cordial to the customers in order to survive. If it were not for the women in the military camp, who flattered the soldiers for some money. Even Suzanne was obedient to Locke and had never disobeyed him. In other words, Locke had never seen such a brave woman before.
After such a long time, the woman's eyes were already bulging out and her breathing was shallow. Locke was confident that even if he had been strangled for such a long time, he would still be at the gates of hell. Only then did he let go of the woman in his right hand. Seeing that he had let go of her, the slightly matured woman on the ground quickly rushed to the young woman's side. "Laffey, Laffey, are you okay?"
When the young woman heard the woman's cry, she only nodded slightly. After a violent cough, she closed her eyes. However, from her weak breathing, it could be seen that she was not dead. She had just fainted.
Locke was a sensitive person. After the woman coughed, he felt a state similar to when he, Yoshk and the others trained. It seemed that the woman also practiced impetus. Locke wondered how it was compared to Falconry's.
The woman panicked when she saw that the young woman had fainted. Fortunately, the faint rise and fall of her chest proved that she was still alive. The woman heaved a sigh of relief. Suddenly, she remembered that she was still in someone's clutches. Her body trembled again.
Locke asked again, "Who are you people?"
"We, we are a family in this city. She is my maid." The woman was, of course, Glace. She was indeed a famous social butterfly in the royal capital. After a brief moment of panic, she immediately confessed her background as if it was real.
"You're lying! How can a maid from an ordinary family know impetus? "Locke stared at the woman's face like a needle.
Glace had never been looked at like this by a man before. Her emotions that had just calmed down started fluctuating again. As an ordinary person, she didn't see any traces of impetus when Locke subdued the two of them. She thought that he was just a powerful officer.
This was also the difference between Shalor and Faustian. In the Faustian army, one could exchange for impetus after achieving a certain level of military merit. In Shalor, impetus and other secret manuals had always been in the hands of the nobles. Even in the army, there were low-ranking officers who didn't know impetus. As for some officers who knew impetus, it was because they were originally nobles or were retainers of nobles.
No matter how Glace looked at him, she couldn't tell that Locke had been nurtured by a noble. From her experience, she could even tell that this man was probably an ordinary civilian.
Locke also didn't know the difference in impetus teaching between Shalor and Faustian. He only knew that in the past, it was difficult for him to meet an enemy who practiced impetus. This could be seen from the fact that there were only two people on the city wall who practiced impetus. But once he met such an enemy, it also meant that he was a moving treasure. Yoshk once told him that those who practiced impetus in Shalor were either rich or respectable. If he met such people on the battlefield, he would ask his brothers to kill them. If he killed them, he would get a handsome reward, such as exquisite armour or sharp swords. If he was lucky, he might even get a ring or some other rare goods.
Locke looked at the woman on the ground. She was dressed in a very simple maid's outfit. The only difference was the style and colour of the maid in the baron's camp. They were basically the same. This also meant that Locke wouldn't get any armour or longswords. As for rings and necklaces, Locke didn't see any. However, there was a gold bracelet on the woman's wrist. It was better than nothing. Locke took off the gold bracelet and put it in his arms.
This woman didn't intend to tell the truth. Locke was prepared to use some forceful means. There were many ways to torture on the battlefield. Locke wouldn't be soft-hearted just because she was beautiful or a woman. This was also the reason why he could live for so long.
"Aunt..." A little girl's soft voice broke the silence of the night.
In the early morning, the turmoil in Farlans had yet to calm down. Although it was a small city, there were still thousands of people in the city, including the refugees. The smell of burning lingered in the air for a long time. Many soldiers were still searching for treasures in some shops or houses.
Cries, curses, the sound of heavy objects falling to the ground and the sound of things breaking were the main melody of the city.
There was also a commotion in the castellan's mansion where Cardoj resided.
"What did you say? The castellan of this city ran away! Why didn't you tell me yesterday?! "Cashel's roar reverberated throughout the mansion.
"It's just a castellan who ran away. What's the fuss?" Cardoj casually wiped his clothes with a handkerchief.
"Just a castellan? Don't you know that he's the son of a margrave? His harvest alone could be worth half of this city. "Cashel was still angry.
"He's just an unloved son. Do you want more?" Cardoj was still indifferent.
Cashel still wanted to say something, but Cardoj interrupted him. "You just want a 10% share. You can take 10% more from the armory and treasury of this city."
"The granary..." Cashel still wanted to argue. "No!" Cardoj refused. "I don't have much food left. We'll split it equally. That's what we agreed on."
Cashel and Cardoj's troops were considered the private armies of the nobles. The military was only responsible for a small amount of money and food. The rest had to be prepared by the nobles themselves.
"Alright, it's settled then." Cashel obviously knew that this was his bottom line.
After Cashel left, Wyr and the old butler appeared in the baron's room. "Tell me, what's going on?" the Baron said coldly. His face was so cold that no one could guess what the Baron was thinking.
"My Lord," Wyr said, "the castellan had about fifty cavalrymen with him when he broke out of the encirclement. Although their equipment and quality aren't as good as ours, they're not far off."
"Also," Wyr said after a pause, "there was a mid-rank Knecht and two low-rank Knechts who fought desperately to hold me back."
"Oh?" The baron's interest was piqued. "Two low-rank Knechts and one mid-rank?" Even Baron Cashel only had one low-rank Knecht and one low-rank Magister under his command.
"Yes, my Lord." Wyr didn't feel as pressured in front of the baron as he did in front of Locke and the others. Firstly, the baron was a low-rank, and secondly, he had been in a high position for a long time, so he naturally developed an imposing aura.
"Also, that mid-rank Knecht fought with no regard for his life. He took a blow from me and held me back," Wyr continued.
Cardoj could clearly imagine the scene at that time. A mid-rank Knecht took a blow from a high-rank Knecht head-on. Even if he didn't die on the spot, he would be crippled. Yet, he was still able to hold Wyr back. He must have used some kind of secret technique.
The baron's expression softened. "Let's forget about this matter. Have you hidden the goods?"
"Yes, they're hidden in the forest outside the city. I left a few men there to guard the place," said Wyr with a fist salute.
The cavalry platoon led by Wyr naturally wouldn't let the castellan escape. Out of the five carriages, three were captured.
Cardoj had heard from his men that one of the three carriages was filled with gold coins, estimated to be more than a thousand, one was filled with Shalorian jewellery and handicrafts, and the last one was filled with weapons and armour. Unlike the vaults in the city, which were filled with silver and copper coins, the value of the box of gold coins was enough for Cardoj to attack the city, not to mention the jewellery and handicrafts that were even more precious than gold coins. However, this box was not easy to deal with. He had to transport it to Bideslane to exchange for its value.
