Chapter 20 - Johann

Johann that night couldn't resist taking up a drink. His wife shook her head showing her disapproval. He tilted the glass stating that he had to take a drink to calm his nerves down. She shook her head once more and left for their bedroom. He sat there on the chair in front of the hearth as he walmed himself. Mostly of the cold thoughts that kept him awake all lot of these nights. He wanted to participate in the war, but Franz Joseph 1, the king was against it. If we send all the men out to fight the bad men there, who is going to fight the bad men inside (meaning inside Austria).

As he was pondering his non participation in the war, there was a knock on the door. Sir, said an officer that late into the hour. What is it? asked Schober. Sir, the Serum has made its way to Russia. They have stocked up for generations, he said. The mafia, sir, he said with a look of terror in his face. The Moscow Mafia hold the serum and in their hands, it could be dangerous, he said. Schober, said fine and told the officer to leave back to his home. He did not seem too worried about it. The Moscow Mafia was more interested in money than fight. And strangely obsessed with vitality and long life, he thought and sat on his chair.

In the coming days, the news would report that the Mafia had formed some form of deformity in their heads and ears. They look like weird creatures, thought Schober as he saw their faces on the newspaper. Their children sure won't be happy with this, he said as he turned the page to another. His face was there. They honoured him. He had after all solved the most important case in recent history. Al corp and Telekenisis. It indeed was connected. Telekenisis had ended the life of all those who had taken the Serum. Well, almost all! The most dangerous of them all roamed free. But Schober did not know that. In his mind, the case was over and the Serum would no longer pose any trouble to the world. His wife brought him the coffee as he turned the news to more interesting news. Sports! he sipped the coffee in a happy mood, as the war was over and it looked like eternal peace would prevail. Some eggs would be nice! he said, scrambled, he added with a touch of authority that sadly never left him all his life. Ok dear! his wife said and walked towards the kitchen.

Schober soon would be the founder of Interpol. Started in 1923, it would go on to become a large and successful organisation that would last centuries.
