Chapter 31 - Return

"Look! He's coming!" One of the students suddenly exclaimed when he saw Bai Shen rushing toward the store.

He had some bloodstains on his clothes, and perspiration was clearly pouring down his face.

It made the others wonder what Bai Shen really had to go through.

As soon as he arrived, Bai Shen observed the people's complicated expressions; he swiftly raised his hand and urged them to leave.

"If you brought provisions and the like, let's hurry up a bit and go. I don't want a mutated animal or beast to appear at this moment."

Hearing the term "mutant," the students, including Tang Yue and Luo Tian, were confused.

For them, it was the first time they had heard about mutants, as they had been stuck in the same classroom since the beginning of the Apocalypse.

Perhaps sensing their confusion, Bai Shen quickly explained to them what a mutant was.

"They are basically creatures that didn't survive the 'screening process' of the Apocalypse and were instead corrupted into becoming mindless monsters seeking to kill everything they see."

"Well... Not all of them may be mindless, but some surely will be. Though, I'm afraid that as they level up, they soon gain enough intelligence and become as smart as humans."

Hearing Bai Shen's explanation of what a mutant was, the students started to get an uneasy feeling.

Tang Yue's eyes suddenly lit up, and she hurriedly asked something that caught her attention, "But what's the difference between a mutated animal and a beast? Aren't they the same?"

It was only now that the others reacted, and hearing Tang Yue, indeed, it didn't make sense to them.

Bai Shen pondered for a while, "The degree of the mutation. I think that's the best way to look at the problem."

"If a mutant is slightly affected by the Apocalypse, then it's considered a Mutated Animal, but if the corruption goes a bit further, it's going to become something more dangerous, a Beast."

"At least that's what my team and I guessed. We don't know for sure yet, but it's most likely the case."

As they walked, Bai Shen told the students more about his Territory, even about the special building that they could find inside.

When they heard about the Class Change Building and the Bloodline Selection one, everyone was shocked.

As they were all young, they had some basic knowledge of video games and novels, so they understood the importance of a Territory now.

What Bai Shen didn't tell them was the fact that he currently possessed another Territory Token.

'I don't think I should tell anyone yet. For now, my priority should be to see its use after getting back.'

While he couldn't be sure, Bai Shen thought that the additional Territory Token would have another meaning for his Territory.

He didn't think that he would be forced to give it to someone else to create another Territory; it would surely bring some benefits to his current one.

The group was running toward where his mansion was located because they didn't want to spend much time wandering the dangerous streets.

Especially because Bai Shen was weakened right now. He couldn't afford to get into another few battles, so he dashed forward with a speed that the people behind could catch up to.

Of course, there were a few zombies popping up here and there, but they were only some low-leveled ones that didn't pose a threat to them.

After another few minutes, Bai Shen and the others finally made it to his Territory.

Seeing an invisible-field-like barrier surrounding a huge area, the students were surprised.

If not for Bai Shen turning it on for them to see, they would have thought he was spouting nonsense.

But since the proof was right before their eyes, they didn't have a choice but to believe him.

This also added another layer of protection for them. It helped calm not only the students but also the people currently residing inside the Territory.

They all saw when Bai Shen opened the barrier for them to safely pass inside.

This not only announced his arrival but also assured the others of his safe return, making his friends breathe a sigh of relief.

"Bai Shen!" It was Lin Ruoxi who quickly came to welcome him.

Very soon, Li Meixue and the others also came in succession, wearing happy smiles on their faces.

Since Bai Shen returned alive, and not only that, he also brought a few people with him, they were, of course, happy.

It meant that their Territory got a little stronger once again.

After telling the others what happened at the campus, they were shocked to hear that thousands of zombies were gathered there.

Talking for a few more minutes, Bai Shen assigned Tang Yue as the Captain of her new team, formed of the students.

After that, he checked the two skills that he threw in his Inventory.

Night Vision (Passive): Allows the user to see through darkness. Turns night into day.

Rage: Unleash greater strength at the cost of physique.

Bai Shen's eyes lit up seeing the two skills. But then another problem came. Who to give them to?

How was he supposed to give these two skills randomly?

In his mind, the Rage Skill would surely work wonders with Aunt Xiu, as it complemented her Talent.

As for the Night Vision Skill, he also wanted to take it for himself, but it would be more fitting for Li Meixue.

After thinking for a while without reaching a consensus, he decided to do the simplest thing there was to do; ask.

Telling Li Meixue and Aunt Xiu about the skills, the others also gave their own opinions.

It wasn't really a debate, as Lin Ruoxi and Fatty Jiang didn't take part in it. Only Li Meixue and Aunt Xiu spoke.

And what should've been an important topic to discuss ended up with giggles and teasing.

Bai Shen wasn't aware of what they discussed, but after some time, the two women came to him and said, "We decided."
