Chereads / Amukelo: The Burdened Path / Chapter 340 - Middle Floors

Chapter 340 - Middle Floors

Descending deeper into the dungeon, Amukelo's team, accompanied by Airnel and the seasoned members of the Fallenhoods guild, found themselves navigating an increasingly treacherous landscape. The middle levels of the dungeon were a stark departure from the upper floors, dominated by an intricate network of water-filled chambers that presented a host of new challenges.

As they progressed, the environment grew more alien and dangerous. The air was humid, filled with the constant sound of water rushing through the extensive cave system. Bioluminescent algae cast a ghostly glow over the dark waters, creating a surreal, almost beautiful landscape that was in sharp contrast to the danger lurking within. Massive crabs with translucent shells scuttled across the cave floors, blending almost perfectly with the rocky terrain until they were nearly upon their prey.

Elandir took point with his keen eyes scanning the shadows. His arrows, each fletched with the rare feathers of silverwing falcons, flew true and fast, piercing through the water with minimal resistance to strike at the massive crabs and the eel-like creatures that threatened to swarm them from the dark recesses of the lakes.

Behind Elandir, Zilthiss chanted incantations, her staff glowing with deep, ancient magic. With a sweep of her staff, she summoned protective barriers around the group whenever the bioluminescent eels attacked, their bodies lighting up in a dazzling display of colors before launching themselves at the adventurers.

Brorin, with his rune-etched hammer, waded into the fray with a grunt, swinging with a force that sent water splashing around him. Each strike of his hammer created shockwaves, stunning the smaller, disorienting fish that emitted high-pitched screeches capable of stunning their victims.

Krazthir, moved with lethal precision, his dual-bladed sword slicing through the water and any creature that dared approach. His scales shimmered like steel under the eerie light, reflecting the bioluminescent glow as he engaged the larger spider-like creatures that skittered across the water's surface, camouflaged as rocks.

Amukelo, coordinating closely with Airnel Vumogo, focused on maintaining the group's formation. Airnel, with his calm demeanor shattered only by the swift and decisive strikes of his golden lion-tipped blade, proved an invaluable ally. His expertise not only in combat but also in navigating such perilous environments kept the team moving forward effectively.

Serah, ever the vigilant healer, stayed towards the middle of the formation, her robes marked with symbols of healing fluttering as she moved from one teammate to another. Her hands glowed with a soft light, mending wounds and restoring vigor as she administered her potent herbal concoctions and magical salves.

After nearly two days of relentless progression, battling through swarms of aquatic adversaries and navigating tricky underwater passages, the team finally reached what appeared to be another boss's lair.

Krazthir rallied the team, his voice echoing off the stone walls, "This is our test before we reach the safe zone. Let's show this Leviathan the strength of the Fallenhoods!" With a collective nod, the group braced themselves for the ensuing battle.

The cavern trembled as the Leviathan Warden emerged from the shadowy depths, its iridescent scales shimmering under the spectral light cast by the bioluminescent algae clinging to the rocky walls. The ancient sea serpent's eerie blue eyes surveyed the intruders, casting an ominous glow that reflected the peril of the deep.

As the beast maneuvered effortlessly through the water, its massive body twisted and coiled, creating powerful currents and disorienting whirlpools designed to drag and confuse its adversaries. Each movement of the Leviathan was a calculated dance of aquatic grace and deadly intent.

Krazthir Steelwing took the lead, his scales glinting like armor as he braced against the sweeping currents. "Formation, hold strong!" he shouted, signaling the team to tighten their ranks. Elandir Swiftarrow, perched on a higher ledge for a better vantage point, nocked an arrow imbued with ancient woodland magic, aimed to disrupt the Leviathan's movements.

Zilthiss chanted in a low, resonant tone, her staff raised high as she conjured a protective barrier around the group, shielding them from the Leviathan's initial Torrential Strike. The violent sweep of its massive tail sent a blast of pressurized water hurtling towards them, which smashed against the magical shield with a thunderous roar.

Amukelo and Airnel flanked the serpent, their movements synchronized. Amukelo's swords, one shadowed in black-red mana and the other in bright green, sliced through the water with precision, aiming for the Leviathan's underbelly whenever it exposed itself during its attacks. Airnel, calm and focused, waited for openings to use his golden lion-tipped blade to deliver swift, debilitating strikes.

Brorin and Serah remained back, with Brorin readying his rune-etched hammer for a crushing blow, while Serah prepared her healing spells, her hands glowing with a gentle light that mended minor injuries sustained by their allies in real time.

The Leviathan Warden, sensing the coordinated threat, emitted an Abyssal Call that resonated through the cavern. The haunting sound summoned swarms of lesser aquatic creatures, which swarmed toward the heroes in a frenzied attack. Elandir's arrows flew faster, each shot finding its mark and thinning the numbers of their assailants, while Krazthir fought at the frontline, his dual-bladed sword cutting a swath through the smaller creatures.

In a moment of wrath, the Leviathan unleashed its Dread Surge, a massive wave infused with the dark essence of deep water magic. The wave swept across the cavern with crushing force, pinning several adventurers against the cavern walls. Amukelo and Airnel were momentarily submerged, struggling against the torrent's pull.

Using her deep knowledge of the dungeon's flora, Zilthiss quickly conjured a counter-spell that lessened the water's grip, allowing them to regain their footing. Airnel, seizing the moment, charged forward, his blade gleaming as he aimed for the serpent's head.

The battle raged for hours, a relentless test of endurance and skill. Through their sheer determination and tactical prowess, the team gradually wore down the Leviathan Warden. As it weakened, Brorin found his moment and delivered a thunderous final blow with his hammer, crashing into the beast's skull. The Leviathan let out a final, mournful cry before it collapsed into the waters, its body slowly sinking into the depths.

Exhausted but victorious, the team regrouped in the now calm waters of the cavern. Krazthir nodded approvingly at their efforts, "Well done, everyone." They took a moment to tend to their wounds and catch their breath, aware that the challenges ahead would only grow more formidable as they ventured deeper into the dungeon's heart.
