Lying in the infirmary bed, Amukelo winced slightly as the healer applied a soothing salve to his wounds. The duel with Eliss and Kael had been fierce, and though they were all friends, they hadn't held back. Now, he was left with bruises and cuts that were slowly mending.
"Take it easy for a while," the healer advised warmly. "You're strong, but your body needs time to recover."
As soon as Amukelo was finally able to move around freely, although not yet cleared for training, Kael decided it was an opportune time to show his friends around the capital.
. . .
They walked through bustling streets, filled with vibrant colors and lively sounds. Amukelo and Eliss marveled at the various shops, ranging from quaint little boutiques to sprawling market stalls. Bars with raucous laughter spilling from their doors stood next to serene cafes where scholars and artists quietly contemplated their work.
Their first stop was the blacksmith, an old but strong woman with arms like steel. Here, Amukelo purchased his second sword—a beautiful, finely crafted weapon that was a perfect complement to his first. It was balanced and sharp, an ideal fit for his dual-sword style. He could feel it; this sword was special.
With new sword in hand, they then headed to a pub, where they enjoyed a hearty meal amidst the jovial atmosphere.
As they sat around the table, the conversation flowed as easily as the ale in their mugs.
"Why did you challenge me?" Amukelo asked, his eyes shifting between Eliss and Kael.
Eliss looked up from her meal, her face earnest. "I didn't want to slow you down," she confessed softly. "I thought that if I didn't keep up, I might never be able to prove myself." Amukelo was about to ask her about why she wanted to prove herself so much.
But before he was able to Kael spoke. "I need to be stronger. I want to be a great adventurer that explores the unknown, that do the unthinkable." He said, but then he added . "Your progress was so fast, it was infuriating. But it was also inspiring. So, what's driving you? You are the only person that can push me to my limits, but what drives your hard work?"
Amukelo paused for a moment, then sighed. "During these six months," he began, "I felt like I did after my mother's death." He started telling them about his past. About the pain he felt.
There was a respectful silence after he finished. Eliss also wanted to open about her past, but she just could find the words to do that.
"You're very strong, Amukelo," Kael said. "Now I understand why you work so hard. I guess we are somewhat similar. You are not just stronger than us in combat, but also in enduring emotional pain. But that's the companion I want to have." Kael said with a wide smile, while giving a thumbs up.
Eliss nodded, but she clearly was deep in her thoughts. As if she wasn't listening to what Kael said.
Amukelo smiled, with appreciation for his friends' words. "We will achieve great things." He stated.
Eliss's finally said as if rejoining the conversation. "Well," she chimed in, "next time, let's not make it a fight. Let's see how far we can go as a team."
Their conversation rang through the pub, echoing their newfound closeness. As they left, full and content, Amukelo felt a weight he didn't know he was carrying begin to lift. His past was still with him, but now, he had a present and a future bright with friendship and promise.
After their heartfelt conversation, the trio made their way to Elandria's famed amusement park, known as "Feyland". Tucked away at the heart of the capital, Feyland was a magical wonder that brought joy to both kids and adults. Even in a world filled with magic, this place was special.
Upon entering, they were greeted by a large shimmering archway that seemed to be made entirely of floating water droplets, sparkling in the evening sun. Beyond it lay a vast garden, where fairies flitted about, their soft glow illuminating the pathways. Every step they took made the grass glow softly beneath their feet, illuminating their path.
One of the most popular attractions was the "Wind Whirl". Here, giant elemental birds would swoop down, allowing visitors to climb onto their backs. With a powerful flap of their wings, they'd soar high into the sky, giving riders the sensation of flying as they circled the park, with the wind rushing past them.
Eliss, with her eyes wide in excitement, pulled Amukelo toward the "Mystic Mazes". These were ever-changing labyrinths crafted by master illusionists. The walls would shift and morph, creating a new challenge every time. At the center of each maze was a tiny enchanted prize for those skilled enough to reach it. As they navigated the twisting paths, Kael playfully tried to lead them astray with his own illusions, laughing every time Eliss or Amukelo called him out.
After escaping the mazes, they were drawn by the melodic tune of the "Harmony Carousel". Instead of the usual horses, this carousel had beautifully crafted magical creatures like unicorns, phoenixes, and even mini dragons, all brought to life by enchantments. As it spun, the creatures would dance in the air to the rhythm of the music, allowing the riders to feel as if they were part of the magical ballet.
As night began to fall, they made their way to the heart of Feyland, where a vast clear pond awaited. Here, visitors could gently place their hand on the water's surface, and aquatic spirits would emerge, taking on the form of various marine creatures, interacting with those who summoned them.
Kael decided to give Amukelo and Eliss some alone time. He grinned, saying he'd meet them at the entrance later, because he wanted to watch adventure theater.
Amukelo and Eliss, hand in hand, wandered around, taking in the magical sights, sounds, and sensations. They laughed, played, and for those few hours, all the worries and challenges of the academy melted away. It was clear that their bond had deepened, not just as fellow students, but as friends, as family.
After leaving the enchanting atmosphere of Feyland, the pair made their way into the heart of Elandria's vibrant marketplace. Eliss's eyes sparkled when she spotted a quaint shop with a sign depicting a rainbow-colored robe: "Enchanted Elegance", known for its unique blend of fashion and functional magic in clothing. She practically dragged Amukelo inside.
The interior of the shop was an explosion of colors and fabrics, with garments hanging from magically floating racks that rearranged themselves to display different styles as customers walked by. The clothes weren't just beautiful; they were infused with minor enchantments, making them change color under different lights, or ripple like water when the wearer moved.
Eliss, her eyes bright with excitement, quickly started to browse through the garments, each one more elaborate than the last. She picked a dress that shimmered like the night sky, dotted with stars that seemed to twinkle. Then another that was a deep, enchanting sea-blue, making her look like a mermaid princess. With each outfit she tried on, she would step out from the changing area, striking a playful pose and asking Amukelo, "How do I look?"
Amukelo, usually so composed, found himself increasingly flustered. He cleared his throat awkwardly each time, trying to find the right words. "You look… beautiful," he managed to say the first time. "Like a moonlit night," he added the next, his voice soft and sincere, but his cheeks steadily growing redder with each compliment.
The shopkeeper, an older woman with a kind smile, noticed the exchange and gave Amukelo a knowing wink, which only made him blush even harder.
After trying on several outfits and enjoying Amukelo's flustered but sincere compliments, Eliss settled on a beautiful gown that seemed to be woven from sunlight itself, radiant and golden. It was elegant yet functional, perfect for a mage-in-training who didn't want to compromise on style.
Seeing Amukelo's earnest reactions, Eliss felt a warmth in her chest she couldn't quite explain. She laughed gently, her eyes softening. "Thank you," she whispered, "for being here with me."
