Eve looked behind her when she heard the hooves. There stood Elene smiling at Eve with a tear stained face.
"Oh!" Elene covered her mouth with her hands and gasped. "I.. this.. Oh sister!" tears started to fall unbridled but Elene took a step back as if she was longing for her sister but at the same time she was afraid to walk too close. Afraid that Eve would hurt her again.
"I did not know." Elena looked at Hazel and then at her sister, "you did not tell me." But Eve was sure that Elene knew. Only a fool would be ignorant that Downshire and Alancaster are relatives and connected families.
